Bakground of the photo is a bit blurry

this is, in most cases, a desired effect (bokeh) which is used to "detach" the subject from the background avoiding the viewer of the picture to be distracted by the background. This technique is widely used in portraits. This effect effect will be more pronounced when the lens is wide open (in your case it should be f/3.5 if I remember well...). To practice you may try the following: set you camera to "A" mode and take one picture of something (it should not be a landscape) using the smallest aperture after this take the same pic using the biggest aperture. With the lower f number you should get a blurry background and with the biggest the backgroud should be in focus!

Nikon D40 green light flashing even when off

Sorry to hear this. Dropping something on concrete creates a high G force. Can you make sure the battery is fully charged before you put it in. If you have a good battery and all it does is blink something must have been broken. I think a D40 is a rather old camera too. Sorry I do not think I can help you. In most times a LED green blinking means it is charging. When carrying a camera you should wrap the strap around your wrist. If you do it correctly if you drop your camera it will not hit the ground. It is best to keep it from dropping on the ground.

Nikon D40 - The memory card will not stay in. If

hi Jfurbees. this is all i could think off just to help you out in till you can get it fixed. I don't have a permanent fix, but one thing that works is folding up a small piece of paper and holding it over the memory card while closing the cover so that the cover pushes on the paper which holds the memory card in place automatically when the cover is closed. You just have to experiment to get the folded paper the right size and thickness. Again, its not a fix, but it has worked for me. I shone a really bright light into the SD slot and sure enough, behind the gold springs at the bottom of the card slot, was a tiny black sliver of plastic that moved slightly when I tipped the camera. About 3mm long. I removed the camera battery. Then I got a big long sewing needle, and with some very gentle manouvering, so as not to scratch anything inside the camera's SD slot, it fell out just when I was about to give up. After I'd got the plastic sliver out, I trimmed the splintered edge of the SD card and put it back in this is not to say it will work for you but give it a try but this will be at your own risk.

D60 connected to my computer but win dows is not recognizing it

I can't give you specific step-by-step instructions without knowing what version of Windows you have, but it sounds like either Windows Plug-N-Play either does not know that your camera is connected or the correct driver program for your camera is not installed in Windows. Go to Nikon's website and download and install the latest drivers for the D60 and then go to the Windows Control Panel and using the Installation program to install the drivers. There should be instructions on the Nikon website.

The D40 is a low end camera, but before you discard it, I would contact the closest Nikon repair depot (see the Nikon website for the location) and ask them for a repair estimate. You will then be able to decide if it is better to have it repaired or replace it with a newer model.

After 30 sec exposure on bulb my Nikon d60 has 20

The camera is performing noise reduction. To avoid this, make sure the ISO is set to 800 or less and Noise Reduction is turned off in the Shooting menu.See "Noise Reduction" in the manual (page 108 in my copy).

Shutter release disabled recharge battery

If you are using the same battery, it could be it has reached the end of life. The charger can indicate the battery is fully charged, because the voltage has reached a correct level, but still the battery can have one or more bad cells. So as soon as you start using the battery, it can lose enough energy to give this nasty message. If you put in another battery and still have the same message, there must be a serious problem in the camera. To check your battery, just after the camera has given this message, with a multi meter. You will see the voltage has dropped at least 1,2 volt beneath the voltage printed on the battery. The typical 7 volt Nikon battery, will give 8 volt on the multi meter. But placed in the camera it will drop to 7 volt. If the multi meter reading is less then 7 volt it has at least one bad cell and should be replaced.

I have a Nikon D40 and when it's in M and S mode

What shutter speed(s) are you using? What happens when you use a faster shutter speed? In the S and M modes you are responsible for setting the shutter speed, and you can set it to anything within the camera's range.

Nikon d40

Take the lens off and continue pressing the shutter untill it doesn't react anymore, you should then have a normal menu without the error message.Put your lens on and you're all sorted.Cheaper and less hassle than sending it to Nikon.

My D40 rolled off my couch and broke my flash.

Check to make sure the flash up switch on the side of the flash (the switch you see where the wires go through when you remove the flash top) is not under the activation rod on the pivot, the pivot is not pushed in, or the activation rod is not broken off. The switch should close when the flash goes up and be open when it is down. A lot of times you see the top contact stuck under the activation rod. Also check the continuity of the two thin switch wires as sometimes they are borken inside by impact
