there is an area under the track ball that goes bad if it get's wet. Cleaning that area with a brush can sometime get it up and running again. try to remove the trackball and clean the area below it if necessary. There is a Blackberry Repair Guide that shows how to open a Blackberry and remove the track ball yourself.

My wife and I both have Pearl's. I found that the problem on both of them was caused by Color Pearl, an application that allows you to change the color of the Pearl's trackball. It was not a problem until upgrading the Blackberry software to v 4.5. I tried rebooting, removing the battery, etc. The light always came back on after an alert. Removing the application ColorPearl did the trick. Just go to Options>Advanced Options>Applications and delete ColorPearl. Hope this helps someone.

The MEP code is the same thing as a subsidy unlock code.The codes are specific to each IMEI. Meaning at&t could not unlock a T-mobile device and vice versa.You first need to find out which carrier has locked it to their network, then call them and ask for the code.
