When you are in ready state, type 10871087 to enter the maintenance mode. Then type 251 to go in the section where clean the MK counter. (U251 Checking/clearing the maintenance count). Press Start to reset (if I remember correctly , you will need to type a new counter (000000), not just to clear the old one). After reset, you press Stop key to exit the submenu. Type 001 and press Start to exit the Maintenance mode.

error c3100 is a scanner problem, try cleaning and lightly oiling scanner rails, if this does not help may be scanner motor or pcb. also check if scanner shipping lock is pushed on
