That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

my canon mx300 does not want to start up.

If your printer was idle for a very long time (a month or more) you need to use a cleaning solution to remove the clog. If its just for a few days, try 3 consecutive head cleaning without printing a nozzle check. Good luck!

Go to epson website to download the driver for your printer.

remove the cartridge and clean the circuit on the cartridge and also clean the circuit in the printer where you insert the cartridges. it has been noticed ample of times that in Epson printers the cartridges gets short in a friction of seconds.try cleaning the circuit and reinserting.if it still shows same light ON.then the cartridge which you got just now is shorted and its not getting detected by the printer so replace the cartridge.or first try to return the cartridge to the store.most probably once the cover is torn out the store does not takes the cartridge back but take a chance to return it.if that's not possible get new original cartridge and insert it in the printer but very carefully.this will solve the problem. always go for HP brand of printers.it lasts long and is very much user friendly. When you first get a new ink cartridge, please remember to remove the clear tape from the nozzle. I know it's a silly reminder, but believe it people forget to remove it sometimes. Also keep in mind, that you may have to run a couple test pages for the ink to start coming out. It usually takes a couple test runs for the ink to start coming out the cartidge. Hope this is useful information for you.

Of course YES. All the color printers are enabled to do that. There are two ways.
1. Even when your color cartridge is full with ink (color) you can print B/W (black). This is done my selecting File>Print>Properties>Advanced>TIFF(monochrome) in windows. Other OS's I dont know. Same way when you are out of color also.

2. When your color cartridges are out of color, the advanced printers can automatically print BLACK. However, this can be done only in few advanced printers like SAMSUNG, HP LASERJET, EPSON and few others.

I would recommend the first option. Because it gives the right amount of GRAY tinge to the print and it is safe and easy and also works on all occasions.

I would check that there is nothing inside the paper feed system. The smallest piece of paper might cause a jam. Take the inks out and give the printer a good shake then put inks in and try again.

IHave you had a jam recently and pulled the paper out to clear it?

Make sure the computer is fully booted up BEFORE you turn on the printer. It is possible that the computer was still booting up when the printer was turned on. That is why it did not see the printer until only after it is rebooted. Try waiting until the computer has booted up before turning on the printer.

With Epson, You must use Genuine Epson Cartridges. This is what happens, when they are not.

Epson has it rigged, that way. Believe me, I have learned from experience.

If they are Genuine, then I suggest, use a new cartridge. See what happens.

Most of the Epson, are always on Sale, for a good price. It would cost most to take it to a repair shop.

This is sort of scenario is usually caused by dust inside the printer. Dust has a way of preventing the sensors from detecting paper. Also it prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on the paper while picking paper. I will suggest you get a long handle brush and try to reach as far inside the printer as possible and brush (from the back and front). After blowing, if you have a blower you may also use it to blow well into the interior of the printer (If you do not have a blower the brushing will still do if you do it well.) This, if properly done should do it. Brush especially the rollers etc.

You need to go into the *properties icon on the print page and click on maintenance. Once you are in maintenance, click on clean print head and follow the directions. You may need to do it a few times to get it cleaned up if it has gone this far.

* go into a document and click on print as you would if you want to print it. when you are in the first print page, depending on your computer somewhere in the print box will be the properties icon.

I had that problem and they gave me a new one because it was a defect. I hope it is still under warranty.
