20 Most Recent Brother DCP-330C All-In-One InkJet Printer - Page 6 Questions & Answers

This is mainly due to dirty machine. Try following my steps:-
1. Press the Menu & Mono start keys. Next press the up arrow key 4 times to make the machine enter the maintenance mode.

2. Enter 8 & 0 by using the up arrow key & SET keys.

3. Press the mono start key several times untill the purge count appears on the LCD.

4. Enter 2 7 8 & 3 by using the up arrow key & set keys to reset the purge count to zero.

5. Press the stop/exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintanance mode.

6. Enter 9 twice by using the up arrow & set key's to exit from maintenance mode

This COULD BE that there is some paper stuck in the dcp. Open cover and try to see if there is some paper left in the machine. I ve noticed, that -seeing from behind!- on the right side paperpieces are stuck and disturb the disk (foil) which give the printer info what to do. Open cover and try to look into the edges (seeing from the front: its the left side -where the modell name is printed) In some cases this means that the purgecamshaft is defective.

u have to reset the purge counter. go to maintenance mode and select 80 .there u can find purge counter for any assistance pls contact me [email protected]

That is a bad printhead error, you need a new printhead unit which is a shop repair.

Error 46 means the waste ink tank is full, needs to be replaced and reset at a shop. Must remove the entire print engine to replace. The part is less than ten bucks, the labor is expensive.

Did you remove the pack part of the printer there is a draw type cartridge, even if you know there is no paper in the machine sometimes this needs opening and closing again. I have DCP 500 Hope this helps Lisa

Usually there is more than one cartridge empty when you receive this kind of problem. Try opening the top cover and check if the display changes - it should change to specify one (or more) of the color cartridges as empty. That one(s) should be changed too.

Contact Brother with model and serial numbers. They should have one you can download.

press "menu" "black start" and "up arrow 4 times". that gets you into maint. mode to be able to reset purge counter. next enter code "80" by pressing up/down arrows and pressing "ok". press "black start" several times until you see "purge count". now press "2783" and "ok" to reset purge count. then press "black start" about three more times or until you see flushing count. again, press "2783" and "ok" to reset. now hit "stop/clear" a couple of times and press "99" to exit or use arrows to get to "99" . at this point, you may have to press "ok" to get out of maint. mode, but i think once you press 99 it backs out automatically. next time this comes up however, you will need to have your ink absorber box and flushing box replaced.

The follow procedure requires driver setup.
Ensure first that you have the original disk for your printer, if you do not have it, then download printer driver from Brother: DCP-330C: Downloads: Drivers.


Start unplugging all cables from printer and also unplug computer power cable.

Restart computer with printer unplugged.

On computer go to Control Panel installed printer and remove printer.

On printer, open all doors, look for paper stuck inside and for foreign objects.

Plug back printer to power but not to USB yet, if it flashes red already then the printer is faulty.

On computer, run the Printer software installer from disk or from download. Start driver setup with printer USB not connected.

When asked by software setup wizard connect the printer USB.

Try procedure above twice.

If still no luck the printer is defective, in that case call the phone number listed on the owner manual.

what does it say when u can scan it?

It may not be compatable with Vista, you'll have to check and make sure.

Try updating the driver, it should be available from Brother's website.

Is it still in guarantee? Give it back to a service dealer.

BTW: You have to connect the USB cable directly to your Pc. Otherwise the scanner will malfunction (connection via hub).

Remove the paper jam clear cover on the back side of the printer. Press the paper feeder inwards the printer.Now you should be able to remove the paper tray. Have a look on the position of the photo tray (cover of the tray) Is it well positioned or do you have to fix it?

1 Step One Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.

2Step Two Turn off the printer.
3Step Three Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.

4Step Four Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
5Step Five If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.

6Step Six Click to enlargeIf you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. 8Step Eight Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
9Step Nine If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer.
Reinspect the paper path.
