The error message Unable 46 is an indication that the machines ink absorbers are almost full. The ink absorbers hold liquid and dried ink after it has been purged from the print head. These absorbers can control enough ink for the expected life of the machine.

There is a possibility that this message may have occurred in error. Upgrading the firmware of the Brother machine may resolve the issue. Follow the procedure below to determine if a firmware update is required:
-if the display screen is displaying an error message, press the STOP/EXIT key to change the LCD to the main screen.
-press the # and * key at the same time. The first 2 characters on the top row will determine the ROM version.

If the ROM version is OE or greater (example: OF, OG, OH, etc), the firmware does NOT need to be upgraded. If the ROM version is OA, OB, OC or OD, follow the procedure on this link to upgrade the firmware.

the proper reset code sequence to reset DCP printers without numeric keypad should be as follows:

1. press buttons Set, Menu, Mono Start one by one, followed by up arrow key four times. this should all be done as short a time as possible, around 3 seconds.

2. enter maintenance mode 80 by pressing the up/down arrow key and set key to select numbers 8 and 0

3. press up arrow key several times to get to the Purge item

4. enter 2, 7, 8 and 3 using arrow/set keys to reset the counter

5. press Stop/Exit key to go to root of maintenance mode

6. enter 9,9 to exit maintenance mode

Yes! If the unit senses low ink in one of the cartridges it will require you to replace it or it won't print, it's the same if you remove it.

I can't just print black with my Brother DCP-130C printer when one colour runs out of ink the printer wont work. Can anyone help me thanks Stan

Try reinstalling the printer driver -
You candownload the Brother printer drivers from their support WEB site. Please clickon this link and select your model printer to download :-http://www.brother.com.au/ProductsSolutions.aspx

Did you check the color status in cartridge option.... Is the yellow color is recognizing in color status?

Because your status is showing the color (%), means the cartridge monitor getting the signal from the printer head..as my knowledge there are some issue in the printer head...which is not able to supply the necessary command for yellow color in color partition or please check the ribbon carrying signals out to printer head along. I may suggest you to check this two and take necessary steps.

Which means the issue is in either cable or in printer head. I will suggest you to get in touch of experienced technician .... Because the print head and ribbon both are sensitive... so one who wants to troubleshoot in this part must be careful about this thing....and he must need the instruments.

Have you tried printing text in different colour if that works the black jets are blocked- try running the cleaning cycle to clear (it may not use black ink in graphics)
