Canon rebel will not take pictures

Sounds like the release switch (not the button you push, but the switch underneath) is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Error 99 is my problem... any ideas on a fix?

This may help you, it is from Canon. Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I'm sorry to hear that your EOS is displaying an "ERR 99" message. To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following: 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card. 3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes. 4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera. Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps: 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Insert the CF card. 3. Turn on the camera. 4. Format the CF card in the camera. Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most likely source of the issue. Try using a different card. If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps: 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body. 3. Reattach your lens. 4. Turn on the camera. If the "ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician. If you see the "ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera should be serviced. For factory service, forward your digital camera (remove the CF card and battery) properly packaged and insured, with a letter describing the difficulties. Be sure to include your name, address, telephone number, and proof of warranty (if applicable). Send to the Canon Factory Service Center at the following address: Canon Factory Service Center 100 Jamesburg Road Jamesburg, NJ 08831 Tel.# (732)521-7007 or Canon Factory Service Center 15955 Alton Parkway Irvine, CA 92618 Tel.# (949) 753-4200 Your equipment will be examined and you will be advised of the findings. The length of time for the repair will be dependent upon the nature of the repair and availability of parts if needed. If the repair entails something that is not covered in warranty you will be sent a written estimate to the address that you have provided. Thank you for choosing Canon. Sincerely, xxxx Product Support Representative

Camera will not turn on.

There's a great site that just services Canon Powershots and they do wonderful work. They might do the Digital SLR's as well since it's a Canon. For your no power problem, I would go to this site and email them: www.camerasandparts.com They are amazing if you need help with a Canon. Best of luck with it.

Pictures only on sports mode

Try resetting to factory settings - here's how

  • Firstly press the 'menu' button, then the up button above the 'OK' as many times as needed, until you see the top folders are highlighted.

  • Press the right button near the 'OK' until you see the last folder highlighted. You will know this is highlighted when you see the first menu option that says 'Language'. The 3rd one down from that says 'Clear Settings'.

  • Press the down button under the 'OK' until 'Clear Settings' is highlighted, then press the 'OK' button.

  • Scroll up to your choice and press 'OK' to reset your Canon 400D back to default factory settings.
Now try - it could have fixed it. If not, keep turning the dial back and forth, and see if it jogs the camera's operating system. Try switching on and off. You should know, by the way, that the on/off switch doesn't really switch the power off - it tells the internal computer chips that you want the camera to switch off, and then the program closes it down enough to not respond until you either switch it on again, or take the battery out and re-insert it, when it will indicate a red light on the back of the camera to show the battery has made connection, then you switch on again; good luck - if not, phone Canon in your area

There is a small backup battery in the main battery compartment. I believe the XTi uses a CR2016 battery. It provides backup power to maintain the camera's settings when the main battery is removed.Bob Kilbourn www.camerarepairs.com

My camera rebel xti flash will not work all of a

Does the flash pop up when you try to take a picture in low light in the Green Box Mode? If the flash does not pop up the problem may just be that something sticky is keeping it down. If it pops up but does not fire, the problem is usually either a bad flash tube or the wiring to the flash has broken where the flash head pivots up and down. When the flash is fully charged the capacitor retains a voltage of over 300 volts even when the camera is turned off and the battery is removed. I've seen several cameras where the owner tried to repair the flash and ended up burning out the entire Main PC Board. Bob Kilbourn www.camerarepairs.com

I HAVE A ULTRA SONIC 17-85 LENS THAT WONT TURN

Sometimes, if that lens has heavy use or if it has been traveled with a lot, several of the internal zoom screws may come loose deep inside the lens and cause the zoom to freeze. It requires a complete disassembly of the lens to reach the screws and re-seal them so it does not happen again.Bob Kilbourn www.camerarepairs.com

When I go to take a photograph with my Canon 400d

Do pictures taken before the fault occurred display correctly? Does the fault occur with all lenses or just one? Do you get the problem under bright light when the camera is set to Program or Auto?

If the answers to my questions are "yes", "all lenses" and "yes" then you most likely have a failed shutter assembly. It's a common fault on consumer grade Canon Rebel/EOS triple digit/Kiss models and also affects some of the prosumer versions as well.

If the camera is still under warranty then send it in for a free repair, if not then you'll still need to send it to an authorised Canon service centre for a repair estimate. It's not a cheap repair though so if you decide not to go ahead then you'd either abandon the camera for Canon to dispose of or pay them a modest fee to return the broken camera to you. it's worth getting it back as there is some value in selling it on an auction website as being for spares or repairs.

If your camera is only just outside the warranty, and if you purchased it through official channels in your country then Canon may sometimes authorise a free goodwill repair if you contact their customer service department once you have the repair estimate.

Computer does not recognize my canon eos rebel xti

You can download the driver aand reinstall it from this link: http://www.nodevice.com/driver/EOS_400D/get37008.html Make sure your existing Canon software, if any, is removed before installing the new driver. If this doesn't work you can always purchase a card reader and extract your photos directly from the memory card.

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera. This will require disassembly and trouble-shooting to identify and replace the defective component and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

When I released my cf

Yea i have seen this before on this and other cameras, usually it simply jams up under the lip at the top where it goes in? But other times it jams inside the surround? I have had success with a paper clip and a fine tool, and and pushing it in, and then trying to work it away from the lip so it will pop up again. However sometimes the catch mechanism catches internally and twists this will also jam it, if this happens then unfortunately it is a major task, as then one has to disassemble the case to get at the latch, i know that sux, and it's NOT a job for the faint heated either, these are extremely delicate and sophisticated devices, and need experience to work with. In fact only a professional should be entrusted with such a task, to this end if you cannot do it yourself, then the very best thing to do is to take it to a Canon camera repair center, where i assure you they have had this dozens of times before ask for a "Quote" as to costings and go from there?
