How do you replace capacitors
First you have to find replcament capacitors from the TV manufacturer on the internet. then you learn how to disassemble your TV and power supply, to use screw drivers and soldering iron. Then you can replace any capacitors. Radio Shack salesmen can help technically.

Red LED blinking after turn on the TV (Philips Plasma 42PF9631D
The TV is on protect mode.
Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.
Also
ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box
or dvd connected.
If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing
led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while,
that indicates a fault condition.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.
1The
internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic
charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read
by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the
protection circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrong
voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in
, startingthe flashing light.
If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.
Common faults
that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a
convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.
Check also
the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you
can get same flashing state because of the video cable.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual
If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

SOUND BUT NO PICTURE - Philips 42PF9631D 42 in.
Unplug the box's power cord for 5 minutes and wait for it to reset, plug it in, wait another 3 minutes for the box to reboot, then power up the box. If that doesn't fix it then you might have to call your satellite/cable company.

I have a Phillips model
You have a plasma and the problem is , as you guessed, in the syncro module. Unfortunately you can't fix it, the entire motherboard must be replaced (since the syncro is part of the mainboard chip) and it's only available to authorised dealerships. But, since this will be a relatively cheap fix - less than $250 - and the image quality of your tv is rated almost everywhere as excellent, you should fix the tv and keep it.

42PFL5432D/37 WONT COME ON DEAD/NO POWER LED
An issue i came across with this particular model tv was there were two (2) 3300 micro-farad 25v caps on the power board that have gone bad, preventing the tv from starting up. I replace those two capacitors and it started right up! I suggest having a tech do it, unless u have experience with electronics. I cannot be held responsible for any damage done to your tv, warranties voided, or shocks you may receive.
but that should get it to start back up.

I've just bought a philips blu ray player
Hi,
I would suggest few options for you to get the audio back. I hope video is coming out correctly?.
1. Select the proper HDMI input where you connected BDP.
2. Set the HDMI audio set up to ON/bitstream(do not select OFF).
3. If the Digital Audio Output set up is available select PCM/ALL and not OFF.
3. If you have connected external amplifier pls..remove this?
4. Are you playing a DVD/BD with normal Dolby content or DTS content? Because some TV sets do not have the decoders to decode the DTS content hence there would be no sound.
Let me know if you still have problems

Sometimes when changing channels it indicates
This actually sounds more like a signal issue on the cable box. When you go from regular digital chs to HD channels sometimes boxes will distort or pause the picture when changing channels (it's not the cable or satellite, it's your TV trying to read the different format of the chs) this is normal. Also, some TVs may need to have a firmware update and you can normally get it from the Manufacturer's website

When I turn the tv
If you have the experience and the tools, the best thing to do would be to first download the service manual, which you can do for free at the following website:
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=47612It is a multipart self extracting rar archive, and free of viruses.
On page 20, starting at fig. 5-6, there are troubleshooting flowcharts that you can then follow to identify the issue and find out what you have to do to resolve it. There is a built in system which will blink the LED's in specific patterns to help identify which area of the TV is having issues. Again, if you have the experience and tools you'll be able to follow the charts to the resolution of your issue. If you have never worked with TV's then it would be better to leave the diagnostics and repairs to a repair tech. There are lethal voltages inside all TV's that must be dealt with properly.
Good luck with whatever route you choose to follow.
