Try this approach. First, uninstall the existing Lexmark X1240 printer driver from your pc.

1. On your computer, go to Start.
2. Go to Programs.
3. Go to Lexmark X1200 Series folder.
4. Go to Tools.
5. Uninstall.

After the uninstall process, reboot your pc when prompted.
When your pc turns on, check your system if it's running on 32-bit or 64-bit. Go to Start > right-click on Computer > click on Properties. Take note of the System Type.

Try these: Using a Clean cloth and alcohol;

1. Clean the maintenance station, wipers, caps, etc.
2. Clean the bottom of the carriage.
3. Clean the the carriage rail.
4. And Finally clean the encoder strips
5. After Cleaning above add two drops of oil two carriage rail

There is usually a metal bar that the cartridges slide back and forth on (carriage rail)... over time, this bar can become "gunked up"... Use alcohol pads to clean up the bar, and the surrounding area.... Clean out as much of the track as you can.

If this won't work, you can take out the carriage rail and rub it with a cloth with alcohol and add a few drops of light bearing oil. It's the bearing oil used for high performance bearings in skateboards and rollerblades. Most any light oil should work though.

Look at the bottom of the carrier and see the guide rings, check if they are loose. Get a screwdriver and take them off. Realign them and screwed it in tight. This should fix your issue.
