How do you fix carriage jam?
1. unplug the unit
2. open the lid
3,. Grab the carriage and move it to the far left.
4. power the unit
This should clear the jammed carriage if it does not give or does not move and its hard to move STOP its useless the whole carriage will need to be replaced or repaired witch by all means is not a easy task.
Only move the carriage if it gives movement.
Thanks I do hope this helps, do not shoot the messenger I am not there, please do leave you rantign before you go, thanks Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at

Why do my pictures look faded with up and down
Check the paper to make sure you are using the correct paper type for the project. If the paper is too fibrous, the ink applied by the printer might not fully cover the print surface.
-
In the program being used for printing, click File , and then click Pring .
The Print window opens.
-
Make sure the appropriate product is selected, and then click Preferences or Properties .
The Preferences/Properties window opens.
-
Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.
Consider modifying some or all of the options in the Printing Shortcuts menu to increase print quality.
-
Print quality : If the quality of the printouts is not acceptable, try increasing the print quality. To print more quickly, try decreasing the print quality.
-
Paper type : If one of the options matches the paper type exactly, select it instead of Automatic .
-
Paper size : Make sure that this option matches the paper loaded in the product.
To see additional options, click the The Advanced Features window opens. Consider changing the following option:
Ink volume : Adjust the amount of ink that prints on a page. For lighter images (less ink), drag the slider to the left. For darker images (more ink), drag the slider to the right. The lighter the ink volume, the more quickly the printout dries.
Press and hold the asterisk (
* ) and pound (
# ) buttons on the product control panel.
-
When the control panel reads *******#######, release the asterisk (* ) and pound (# ) buttons.
-
Press the 3 , 2 , and 9 buttons, in that order.
-
Press the right arrow button ( ) to select Special Reports , and then press OK .
-
Press the right arrow button ( ) to select Print Cartridges , and then press OK

Hello, my name is mr. thompson. i can not print
Select printer in your control panel and ensure your printer is set as the default printer. If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. If problem persist, try searching the manufacturers website for updated drivers and make sure they are compatible with your operating system.

I just changed my black cartridge and the printing
Dip the bottom of the cartridge in some hot water. This should open the head so the ink can flow out freely. Once the ink is flowing into the water remove and dry the whole cartridge. Insert into printer and print.
Good Luck

PRINTER MAKES A LOUD SOUND LIKE A MACHINE GUN WHEN IT PRINTS
Turn off the Printer
open the Front access Door, Check if there is bits of paper or dirt on the ROD that moves the Cartrige/carriage.
Move the Carriage freely 5-6 times from left to right ( it should move smoothly )
Remove the Cartridges, Clean the contacts on the Cartridge ( golden Contacts)
Open the Rear Access door, Clean the Rollers with lint free cloth.
Close the Rear access door and front door
Power on the Printer. If the grinding noise continues, Unplug the power cable from back of printer ( while printer is on ) and while holding the # and 6 button, connect it back.
It should go thru alignment process and the grinding noise should be gone. If it doesnt, probably.. its time for new printer of HP again.

Carriage jam on HP Officejet J5780 All-in-One
We have several of these in our company and the most common "Carriage Jam" cause is a glob of black ink in the bay on the right side. Once glob is removed, and "Carriage Jam" message appears again, press OK, and it prints fine from then on. Today the black ink glob was flat on top. Watch out for leaky cartridges, as the design of the particular HP device provides a nice catch pan for the tri-color ink cartridge, but not for the black one, so a leaky cartridge, besides being expensive and wasteful, can goop up the bay causing the carriage jam error message to try to get you to take a closer look.

Computer does not detect printer
What all have you done so far? Is the printer brand new and did it come with everything you need like the printer cord and the installation cd? If so, the first thing you need to do is run the cd, then immediately following, plug the printer cord in from the computer to the printer (and don't forget to make sure the printer is plugged into the wall outlet for power). After you put the cd in, follow the instructions exactly word for word. You shouldn't have any problems. Let me know if you do.

My hp j5780 all in one printer is saying 'close
I was having this problem as well. HP has a tutorial on this problem:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01050739&dlc=en&product=3301296
However this document stopped just short of solving my problem. When I got to step 3, I
found that the metal lever referenced in the document was missing from
my printer. I have no idea what happened to it. This metal lever, when
present, depresses a contact switch when the cover closes and permits
the printer to function. If the metal lever is absent, the contact
switch is not depressed and the printer believes the cover is still
open.
However, the instructions don't say what to do when the
metal lever is missing ... other than service the printer.
HP
technical support was no help. They advised me to buy a new printer.
However, I discovered a work around: I unscrewed the two screws in the
top of the cover and placed a dab of sticky tack on the contact switch.
Then I put a carefully folded square of aluminum foil atop the sticky
tack. When I screwed the cover back down, this arrangement pushed down
on the contact switch and the printer resumed function.
Hope this information helps you.

Paper feed won't work
Sorry no solution but I have exactly the same problem. I have tried everything mentioned in the on-line solutions. Is this problem fixable or is a service required? Thanks to anyone who can help.

CAN'T GET HP OFFICEJETJ5780 WORKING.
Did you clean with alcohol?
If this doesn't help ... you will need new cartridges ... Your son sent you the printer ... maybe he can send you some new cartridges. Maybe you can purchase them online???
I am not a fan of refilled cartridges ... I have never had any luck with them ... others will tell you different ... but I have never had luck with them.
