The message "Print Unable" (followed by a two digit code) will appear onthe display if there is a mechanical malfunction of the Brother machine OR a foreign object, such as a paper clip or ripped piece of paper is stuck in the machine.

First, check the machine for any foreign objects:

• Lift the scanner cover using the plastic tabs located on the left andright side of the machine until it locks securely into the open position. Look inside the Brother machine and remove any foreign objects.
• Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover.If the message continues to appear on the display the machine will need to be reset. Resetting the machine will erase all faxes in memory and the Fax Journal Report. However, there is a way to transfer faxes in memory and the Fax Journal Report to another fax machine to print them out.

NOTE: In order to transfer data from your fax machine to another, you must have the Station ID programmed in your Brother machine, prior to the message appearing on the LCD

- To transfer faxes in memory to another fax machine continue to STEP 3.

- To transfer the Fax Journal Report go to STEP 4.

• Verifying and transferring faxes stored in memory:

a. Press Menu, 9, 0, 1. Note: This menu option will only appear if the LCD is displaying an error message (example: No Paper Fed, Print Unable,etc). The menu option will NOT appear if a status message is displayed on the LCD (example: Ink Empty).


b. If there are NO faxes in memory, the LCD will display NO DATA. Continue to STEP 5.


c. If there ARE faxes in memory, the LCD will prompt you to enter a fax number. Enter the fax number where you want to receive and print the faxes.


d. Press Black Start. Once the machine has transferred the stored faxes continue to STEP 5.

• Transferring the Fax Journal Report

a. Press Menu, 9, 0, 2.

b. Enter the fax number where you want to receive and print the faxes.


c. Press Black Start. Once the machine has transferred the stored Fax Journal Report continue toSTEP 5.


5. To reset the machine, unplug the Brother machine from the power outlet for several seconds and then plug it back in.

First off, make sure that you have turned both the printer and the computer off and then turn them on(cycle the power). When you go to the printer in 'printers' be sure that the printer is not light in color, if it is, then it's failed to come back online or it's broken. When you say, 'I have tried going into the control panel and clicking on print offline', I take you to mean 'print online', because you don't want to print offline, you want it online...

The easiest way to solve this is to move the usb plug going into the computer from the printer from one port to another, this will force the computer to re recognize the printer. I see that this printer has network capability. I am assuming, that the printer is connected via USB and not Ethernet. [USB, rectangle the size of your pinky, but narrow, Ethernet looks like a big phone plug]. If you move the plug from one USB slot to another and you don't hear the hardware connect sound(low tone then high tone), then your printer may be broken. It is possible if it is broken that the Ethernet port still works, but using that is beyond this discussion.

Sounds like you may ahve the 32 bit version of the driver. Try uninstalling all brother software, then reinstalling the 64bit version from:

Try disabling the firewall, printing, re-enabling the firewall. My printer keeps working after re-enabling the firewall (at least for a while). Not ideal, but beats reinstalling the printer.

It isn't a network printer since it only has a USB interface (no LAN port)

but you may purchase a print server if you want to share the printing function on your network (only the printing function can be shared). But some multifunction printers do not work with print servers due to driver issues. There are some users on the net who were able to make this work with an IOGEAR multifunction print server.

Did you have a paper jam before this happened? If yes then the paper must have pushed the encoder strip out of alignment. You will need to turn off the printer and then push it back into slot to fix it. Let me know if you need more help. Sai.

Hello, Anmontey - All the PCs in the network should have the scanner driver installed, for one thing. Best wishes.

Please define several others that are close. If Brother doesn't list a Linux why would you expect it work?

Most printers need all cartridges installed. It will not print or copy. It considers copying the same as printing.

Give it back to a service dealer. If the machine is guarantee brother will repair it for free. Service partner can be found on the homepage of brother of your country.

If you are using or have used third party generic ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges, the Cartridge Sensor printed circuit board may have been damaged. We have found that some third party generic ink cartridges leak onto the ink cartridge sensor circuit board causing an electrical short of the ink cartridge sensors. The damage from the leaked ink results in the machine displaying NO CARTRIDGE because the machine will no longer recognize the installed ink cartridge(s). Genuine Brother ink cartridges do not cause this issue because of the unique design developed to fit specifically in the Brother products. As long as a Brother cartridge has not been refilled, the Brother cartridge will not leak.
