Garmin NUVI 660 - can not locate satellite
These are the instructions I got from Garmin as how to do the Master reset:
Here are the steps to backing up the
favorites on your unit and then performing the master reset. First, you’ll want
to plug your unit into your computer via USB cable. Once it’s plugged in, you’ll
want to go to My Computer in your start menu or from your desktop and
double-click on the Nuvi. At this point, you should see a few folders, but
you’ll want to double-click on the Garmin folder. Here, you’ll want to look for
the “GPX” folder and you’ll double-click on that. In this folder, you’ll want to
drag and drop the file titled “Current.gpx” to your desktop to copy it. Now you
are able to do the master reset.
To do that, you’ll want to start
with the unit turned off and press and hold on the upper left hand corner of the
touch screen. While holding the touch screen, power the unit on and continue to
hold. You should get a message that asks if you really want to go into
maintenance mode and you’ll want to select “Yes”. At this point, you’ll want to
select “clear user data” and then select “Yes” when it asks you if you really
want to clear user data. Now, the unit should restart and you’ll want to take it
where it has a clear view of the sky and let it sit for up to 30 minutes to
acquire satellites. If after 30 minutes it does not acquire satellites, you can
go ahead and reply back to me.
Either way, once we have your unit
back working again, you can follow the first set of steps again to get to the
GPX folder and drag the “Current.gpx” folder from your desktop to that folder on
your unit. This will replace your favorites.
Touch screen not working
Same problem here, but still working, sorta... Touch the letter R and you get O. Touch T and you get S. It's VERY VERY frustrating. :(
My Garmin Nuvi 660 was
Hello
The battery is fully discharged. Charg the system for at least 12Hours and check. If the touch screen is not responding properly; Calibrate the screen. To calibrate it, on the "Menu" page touch Tools=>Settings=>Display. Touch "Recalibrate" button and follow the on-screen instructions. Keep your device charged without any interruptions in charging period. OK.
Batteries will not charge
Your not the Lone Ranger on this problem. After awhile the battery will no longer take a charge. IT is not a replaceable battery by the user. It must be sent back to Garmin for a new battery. If you only use the gps when in a vehicle, it still will work fine when pluged into a 12v source.
Cant change states
when you are at the where to screen press where to ? thenat the next screen press address, then at the next screen you will notice at the bottom of the screen it says change state/country. press that and then at the next screen press the spell state or province button. you can now type in any state you would like. good luck and happy traveling. I DO NOT REMEMBER MY PIN HOW DO I RESET IT
If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit,
the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. It is a anti-theft feature, you can't clear it.
Garmin nuvi won't turn on
folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
