Hi and welcome to fixya sir please elaborate your problem i cant get it for what problem you are looking for a solution
APC 1100 pro UPS - last two sets of batteries failed: hot and swollen failed within few years. Overcharging? Is there a fix? These batteries last in different applications for 5-7 years.
What you need to do is connect a Voltage Meter across the two terminals to monitor the VOLTAGE coming from the Charger portion and pushing power into the battery at a 'trickle' current(usually 20 to 1000mA). The battery is designed for 400-600 cycles of discharge, where the unit is on standby and runs till the battery is at 25% State-of-Charge.
If the battery is drained lower than 25-30% SOC, then it may never recover, and fail prematurely.
The idea of the UPS is to save the system files, and do an orderly shutdown. Not to continue with war-of-worlds until the lights come back on. (I am teasing about the first-person video game).
So, see if the voltages going into the battery are about 13.5 volts to 13.75 , if they are higher, then the main unit needs to be re-calibrated for the battery size.
Doesn't power on
Running a ups without batteries is not a got idea, the batteries are a critical part of the system and without them the ups will not function when the mains power is cut off.
however we can determine if the batteries may be an issue by removing them and checking the output voltage of each battery with a multimeter. I have personally found in the past anything less than 6v may or may not indicate an issue.
With all that said the ups should still turn on and try to boot and charge the batteries regardless if the batteries are dead flat or not. Assuming mains power is connected and the safety fuse is good then it seems most likely a fault in one of the control boards.
It's also worth mentioning that the fans will only start when either the inverter is running ie the mains supply is cut or like in my units the fans will remain on after the mains supply has been restored until the batteries have been recharged.
