Fridge is freezing everything

Check the top of the inside of the fridge. There is usually a flap door mechanism that sometimes falls off or sticks. This regulates the temp in the fridge.

Hi!
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one.

Do the door hinges ever wear out

I did my own search for the same problem and saw Dougs question and lack of a solution. I have the same sagging door problem and was looking for a fix.
First, when I removed the weight of the items from inside the door, the door closes properly. This means that the door is not very sturdy and cannot hold the weight of items placed on door shelving. There are NO adjustment mechanisms on the door hinges either. Bad on Amana. The GOOD NEWS is that I fixed the problem.
Take out all items from the door shelves. I removed the top hinge with the door closed to keep it from falling. I took the door off and placed it on the floor. The lower hinge has a plastic pivot over a steel pin - remove that for a moment. Place steel washers over the steel pin - about .080" or so thickness. Replace the plastic pivot. Replace the door. Add the normal weight of items back on the door shelves. The door closes perfectly. At least until the door sags again and I'll need to add another shim.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
There are 4 models of the unit and the last digit indicates color that being an B, S, Q or W. For reference purposes I will use the B model. Having said that... things that can cause your symptom are:
1. The control board Item 5 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5167295&diagram_id=28326675#d28326675
2. The defrost themostat that is the very last item on this page: (no item number listed)
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5167295&diagram_id=28326676#d28326676
3. The defrost heating element Item 15 above link.
4. The termistor Item 22 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5167295&diagram_id=28326675#d28326675
5. The PTC relay / overload protector or the run capacitor items 10 and 11 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5167295&diagram_id=28326674#d28326674
6. The compressor Item 8 of the above link:

Those are all things that can cause your problem. It takes component testing and replacement to isolate which one of them is causing the problem.

For example... if the unit is in defrost the compressor does not run. If the defrost thermostat has failed it will never terminate the defrost cycle so the lights will be on but the compresser will never start. Also.. if the heater has failed... the Freezer will have to warm up to 60 deg F before the compressor will restart. If the compressor is trying to start about every 5 to 6 minutes the PTC / overload protector has failed. When this happens the PTC / Overload and the run capacitor are all replaced at the same time. (<- before changing these parts if the compressor is HOT unplug the unit for 20 minutes and wait for the comressor to cool down then try and restart it) A bad control board.... or an open /shorted compressor winding can cause a dead unit. There are other examples... but these are the most common. Just a note about your unit if the fans are on and the compressor is NOT running you need to look at the compressor only as where the problem lies. (relay overload cap and or compressor / compressor wiring).

You can try doing a manual defrost by directing an external fan into the freezer compartment for 2 hours. (Makes a water mess) In your case your trying to get the defrost bi-metal thermostat to 60 Deg F so that the signal to start the compressor is present. (provided the defrost thermostat is good) Other than that the only option is to troubleshoot using this wiring diagram:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/frame_diagram.aspx?diagram_id=28326683&pkw_=basket&model_id=5167295&NewWindow=1

Freezer is cold, but cold air is not circulating

Check freezer fan is working. If ice formed over freezer fan by working. It's a common problem due to irregular defrosting. Keep freezer setting temp at 5 degree. And check defrost timer, thermostat, heater are working properly.
Turn timer with small tip screw driver to shut off fridge. If not shut off, replace timer. Turn counter clockwise defrost thermostat. If fridge not shuts off replace defrost thermostat.Check heater by join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. And after 1 minute, unplug power and keep your arm on heater. If it's warm heater is o.k. Otherwise, replace heater.
Once heater starts work at regular interval controlled by thermostat and timer, defrost will be good and effective cooling will also be in fridge compartment.

Amana abb2524deq not cooling

Hello,

If your refrigerator is not cooling, the problem could be any of the following, follow the steps below one after the other to fix the problem of your refrigerator not cooling.

First of all, the most simplest thing to do is to check the temperature. It might have happened that the temperature control may have been turned off unknowingly, which is the reason for the problem. So if that's the issue, just set the refrigerator at 37 degrees and you are all set.

Poor coiling leads to a heavy frost build up on the evaporator coils. A frost build up, specially on the ceiling of the freezer, is a sign of problem in the self defrosting system or damaged gaskets of the doors. Therefore, check if the refrigerator is facing such a problem and defrost the refrigerator. It would not cool well if the defrosting is not happening properly.

A dirty condenser may be the culprit for your refrigerator not cooling well. What will happen in case if the condenser is dirty is that it will cut off the extra load. That work is done by the thermostat on the side of the compressor in case the refrigerator heats more than usual. To rectify this problem clean the condenser coils using the vacuum cleaner. These are either behind or beneath the refrigerator
In case the refrigerator is not leveled, that too can lead to the refrigerator not cooling properly, because if the level is not right, the door of the refrigerator may not close correctly, causing cooling problems. If this is the case, it might be necessary to ensure that refrigerator is at level and is slightly tilted back. Do some adjustment to get that correct level using a wooden block or see if the screws on the leveling legs need some looking into.

Check out the door seal. If the door seal is worn out, it will definitely result in frost build up and that won't allow the door to close properly, thus the problem of refrigerator not cooling. In addition to that there can be a problem in the door even if the level and other things are fine. You would need something to do about the door then. May be loosen the hinges and fix them in order to get the correct position of the door. Eventually tighten the hinges.

The food and freezer sections will go dysfunctional if the evaporator fan is not working properly. This is because then there will be no airflow to the freezer or the other sections of the refrigerator. Confirm if both the fans are working well by listening to the sound emitted by them. There is a possibility that one may work and the other wont. For that, may be you would have to look for a blockage or something in the one which is not working. Even after doing this you do not find any problem in the fan, you may need to replace it. This are are the general procedure for troubleshooting refrigerator not cooling. with all this, you should be able to identify and fix the problem.

Take care.

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Amana ARB1917CSR 18.5 Cu. Ft. Plus Refrigerator. What is the HP of my compressor, which Supco relay and run capacitor?

What tends to happen is that service techs have certain common generic parts in their van, and rather than ordering a part to fit and have a return visit, they fit what they have. Parts seem to be readily available. The compressor is listed but no HP Specs. The bottom show another model and that R134A (1/4HP) is different to R134 (1/5 HP). https://www.google.com/search?q=amana+arb1917csr+parts+diagram https://www.google.com/search?q=Tecumseh+TP122AR003B8 ..

Possible cause of Amana refrigerator making a constant clicking/noise?

Sharla, It could possibly be the ice maker rod that tells the ice maker whether it's full or not. If it's in the down position it wants to make ice and it'll make a clicking noise. Lift the rod up if it's down. Hopefully this helps!? Best to you.
