Hi, There appears to be a design flaw with this particular model. We opened it up to notice that the wires connecting to the customer display was cut off. Why? Because if you even remotely try to turn the cover up towards the sky as it is functionally allowed to, the wires get ripped off. The solution we came up with was to open it up (it's not that bad) and re-solder the wires back and prevent the customer display from turning the head all the way up. You'll be able to see what wires need to go where by seeing how it is connected to the main board. Hope this helps.

Clearing the "Not Assigned" and "Head Up" Error on the XE-A40S, XE-A41S, XE-A42S, XE-A401, XE-A402 ...
Sorry for late answer. It usually means the batteries were flat or faulty and the memory could not be supported during the power cut. Also, a high voltage surge can come down your mains if high voltage lines cross yours (say in a car crash with power pole) which can cause a serious overload in equipment.
Royal don't tend to give out this info. and this model is rare to find. You will need the code for Journal clearing. I've found that it varies too much between registers to guess it by other ones. For the royal machines, I usually just send customers to buy the manual from the supplier. There is also a PDF manual on the net if you need one quickly:

Sorry I can't help further with this model
