ASUS P5RD1-VM raid controller
try to find updated drivers from ASUS and see if you also can find a BIOS update. Most times the BIOS update will solve most known issues. OPreferably do it via old-fashioned diskdrive, that is still the most reliable.

When trying to install xp
You need the original cd from this product to install... i have it when i buy this pc (not new/second)I have been there too...But i heard from Indonesian people, they use cloning (clone OS) using Norton Ghost...Have a nice day ;)

When open the compeuter must
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
if this fails to fix the problem you might try safe mode
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things
working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer
is this the only key you have to press might be a log in requirement you have enabled
depending on your operating system click start control panel user accounts change the way you log on you should see log on options change the way users log on/off
learn more about user accounts increase log on security

Can't boot from sata CD

Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
(note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the settings to failsafe or optimised defaults) this will change the first boot device to floppy

Yes, it's compatible with the motherboard, no, it's not compatible with the XP install disk because it doesn't have SATA support. And since Asus doesn't provides it special driver needed (one that must be put on a floppy) it means that you simply cannot install XP on this disk.
All you can do is to obtain another PATA hdd what ever its size and install XP in it. Then put the new SATA disk in and use it to store all the installed programs and all your files on it. As a bonus you won't lose them if the new PATA disk fails or XP gets corrupted.
Or install Vista or 7 instead of XP, the have support for SATA disks
