You do not need the disc. Using you browser, login into the router using the default IP 192.168.0.1 unless this has been changed and you should be able to configure your router. login ADMIN and pass is blamk Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You can acquire the Wep Key or Network Key by accessing the Wireless Settings Page of your router. I've listed the steps below to access the router. Make sure that your using a working computer that is connected to the router

To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.0.1. the username is admin and the password is blank. Go to Wireless Settings Page check the SSID or Network Name and Network Key or Wep Key. You can personalize the SSID and Network Key so that you can easily remember it.

does the computer that's directly connected to the modem connect to the internet? If not then make sure your settings are well set, your service provider (ISP) and all the other settings that your ISP supplied you have not been tempered with or modified.

Does you WDS and router communicate? Have you changed the IP addresses form the default ones that came with your devices? They usually begin with 192.. at times the default IP addresses don't work in some institutions. You can configure most DLinks using internet explorer by typing in the DLink IP address bar.

Considering your age, you need someone to show you how these things are done.

please call dlink tech support at 877-453-5465. just an advise on how to handle the call when you reach dlink tech support (agent); do not agree to call back after you troubleshoot with them (they'll be giving you a case id reference# and be advising you to check your pc or call "who" and call them back to continue the troubleshooting). insist to the agent that he need to resolve the problem asap (by the way, agents are not allowed to drop the call or they'll be dead-history!). and if the agent still insisted you to call back, ask for a "senior level technician" to finish the job (escalate the problem).
fyi: dlink tech support handling time to resolve a call is 15 to 18 minutes only. if you reach that 15-18 minutes (max) time the agent will think of a way for you to call back (advising you to check with your pc manufacturer, check with your ISP, call microsoft to update your software, etc... non-sense!) they need to do this in order to reach their handling time (agents need to reach 21 to 25 billable calls, and billable calls are "solution provided", "resolved", and "dropped call"). ---- believe me, i was one of them and repented.

You will need two things. 1. A wireless router. 2. A wireless adapter for the computer if it does not already have one.

If you have anormal sized home you want a "G" network. If you have a larger home or a lot of walls to pass thru, upgrade to "N" equiptment.

I am sure it is now toast and you cannot downgrade if the wrong firmware has been installed. I would ask D-Link.

the manual is free , at dlink dot com you push the reset button for long time per manual 15sec (iirc) the release it and now all defaults are set. per the manual, google dir-655 manual. easy as pie if you just read the manual.

There's a reset button on the back of the router, it's a small button that you can press using a paper clip. Press it for 15 seconds to reset it.

Reset 1:
Press the reset button for 15 seconds at the back of the router while the router is on.

Reset 2:
Press the reset button for 15 seconds while the router is on after 15 seconds unplug the power cord while holding the reset button then count another 15 seconds and release the reset button. Then plug the power cord back in.

Reset 3:
Press the reset button for 15 seconds while the router is on after 15 seconds unplug the power cord while holding the reset button then count another 15 seconds and plug the power cord back in while the reset button is plugged in and count another 15 seconds release the reset button.

go to dos prompt in a windows pc and type in ipconfig and press the enter key to find the default gateway address it might be 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 these are the most common. Type the ip address into internet browser to log into the gateway router. There will be an admin user name and admin password.
