I have a dell inspiron 6400 and my dvds wont play sound

Could be a couple of things, check your sound devices in the control panel, make sure your disk drive is included and volume at a good level.

If its all set properly, it could be your media player needs its codecs updating. Or you could go to filehippo.com, download and install VLC media player. Its a brilliant programme and a lot less cumbersome than the windows version.

My computer does not acknowledge my cd rom, will

Might be a device failure. Have you checked the cables (by changing)?
Does it show up in the BIOS settings? Check it. If it does boot to the OS. Right click on My Computer icon and Select Manage. Go to device manager and check whether the device is having any problem (It should be listed their and must not have red X or yellow ! mark. If one of these are there that means the dives is having a problem with its hardware or firmware driver). If its there and no errors shown what you have to do is: Go to disk management and check properties. It will show the stats. (If its not shown their either a device failure or the drive is hidden). Finally if nothing works: Start -> Run Type this in Eventvwr.msc Click on System. Check for CD Rom errors. It should be listed their if the device having a conflict. It might be a device level or api level failure. Please post the error list next time after running Event Viewer.
The last thing is that if you (or any malware) created a registry entry or a group policy edit to remove the drive from being displayed you have to re adjust the policy. Scan the machine. Try to do the following.
Start -> Run Type in this gpedit.msc Expand User Configurations Expand Administrative Templates Expand Window Components Click on Windows Explorer Check whether these settings are enabled. "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" Double click on the setting. If enabled disable it If not Enable it for a drive (lets say A: drive) Click Apply and OK Then Disable it again. Click Apply and OK Follow and apply the same steps for this setting as well. "Prevent access to drives in My Computer".
Any of those steps will help you to solve the issue. If not contact further.
Please rate the answer and a testimonial (comment) if the solution helped you to solve the problem...Thanks for contacting Fixya

Dvd doesn't eject when the button is pushed

On the front bezel of the drive, just underneath the disk drawer there's a small hole.

Straighten out a paper clip, and push it into the hole, that should release the drawer. Take out the disk and press the button, the draw should now work ok.

My Dell Optplex will not recognise my NEC ND-6500A

You will have to delete the upper and lower filters and drive will be shoun in my computer again.
In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

My hl-dt-st dvd+-rw gt10n drive

Hi there, After restart the laptop , you have to install the driver for the hl-dt-st dvd+-rw gt10n drive. When its finish then restart you laptop again. After that hope its working start. If not then try these step below.
Hi there please try these mentioned below.

1. Restart the PC and repeatedly hit F8 until you have a menu in front of you.

763bf38.jpg 2. You will find few option there. Just select these mention option " Last know good Configuration ...." use by your up/down arrow on your keyboard.
3. Press enter there.
4. your will see the system asking you for which OS you want to use. If you have only one OS then just press ENTER there or select the OS and Enter.

After these if you face the same problem then you need to install the USB port again for your laptop from the driver disk. Your drivers are corrupted & that's why they can't judge the port or your hl-dt-st dvd+-rw gt10n drive.

My cd/dvd drive is not

Hi

right click on my computer or computer, which you will find from either your desktop or from the start menu. Select Manage from the list.

Now on the management window, on the left side click on device manager.

now on the right, do you see a dvd drive or similar? If not, right click on any device and select scan for hardware changes, if the drive still doesn't show up on the list, or even as a unknown device or similar, then it is most likely faulty.

I would recommend that you check the bios of your laptop and see if the CD rom drive is listed there, to get into bios, read this tip I wrote about something else earlier, but it shows you how to get into bios

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575592-unable_to_start_cd_solve_boot_cd_issues_

in bios, see if you can find a name for your CD rom drive. if you look at the tip page, on the 3rd picture you see a SONY CD ROM DRIVE on the center of the image, if you can't see any similar CD ROM drive entry in your computers bios then most likely the drive is not working at all and is not detected or it might be lose from the slot.

you might have to replace the drive, you should get a professional to look over the machine before replacing any parts since I can't see all the things over the internet.

I have a Dell Latitude D530 laptop - does it have a DVD writer?

According to your Service Tag, your machine was shipped with an 8X DVD -ROM & 24X CD/RW Combo Drive, so yes you will need to purchase a DVDRW drive. There is a single layer burner that 4.7GB, and a dual layer model for 8.5GB. They can be purchased from Dell directly, or eBay, Amazon etc (same drive fits D630, D830 etc) and there is a rectangular button on the lower right hand side of the drive that you press in, to pull out the existing CDRW, and simply slide the new drive in. You will need a Burning software like Roxio or Nero to burn DVD's onto the new drive.
