My KDL-40S20l1 standby led flashe red 4 times pauses and the flashes red 4 times and keeps doing this. There is no sound and no picture. The power button does nothing. I tried the up arrow on the remote while pushing the power button on the set, this did nothing. I tried pushing display > 5 > + > power on the remote with no results. The manual says 4 flashes on the power led is a backlight failure. The power led is not lit at all, only the standby led flashes.
try some of the solutions on this link hope one will work for you. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KDL32S20L1.pdf look under troubleshooting for no picture good luck

My sony bravia (32' lcd) has developed a thin vertical red line about 5 inches from the right side of the screen... it seems to ba about 1 mm thick on the bottom and fades near the top of the screen. How do I get rid of this artifact?
This maybe the symptom of a bad Panel. One Vertically This line is 99% bad panel. Call your warranty provider or SONY tech support if purchased under 2 years.
Best regards

no sound or picture when turned on just a blinking stand by light in front which blinks four times and pauses
I have a Sony KDL40S2000 and three months out of manufacturer warranty my TV made a clicking noise similar to feedback in a bad sound system and went to black screen. The error was not recoverable and four blinking lights were seen by a technician. I bought the extended warranty from my store, so I was covered. After one month in the shop, the technician brought my TV back today and told me the panel was replaced which would have cost me 1000 dollars if I wasn't covered by the store warranty. I read on another site the four flashing lights can mean a bad inverter. I don't know enough about TVs to tell you if the panel and inverter are one in the same, I just know you need to get it repared if you get four blinking lights at a huge cost!

When I turn on the tv, the green light comes on and it acts as thought it's going to turn on. Then, the screen goes black and the red standby light blinks continuously until I turn the tv off.
Does the red light blink in a discernible pattern? How many times does it flash or blink?

Our Sony Bravia tv picture keeps going light dark light dark. What is causing this problem? It is very annoying when it goes dark because you can't see the picture. Please help.
I have Sony KDL-32XBR9 and I have noticed a similar problem. When the picture is showing mostly black, for example during the ending credits of a movie, the TV will further darken the display. Once the picture lightens back up, the TV will adjust the brightness of the display back to normal. I just called Sony customer support and they indicated it was a firmware problem and they will be sending a USB device in the mail to update the firmware. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a Sony Bravia 46", it just happen today when I turn the TV on, there is a fine green vertical line displayed near the middle of the screen. Can you advice what may have caused the problem, and possible solution?.
Thats a pixel data problem, there's no data being sent to that row of pixels so they don't change color. This is a pixel address registry (PAR) issue and the PAR circuits need to be serviced its usually due to open or shorted SMT components on the PAR circuits. PAR also sends data, voltage, and control to each pixel, the green line you see are pixels that have voltage but because there's no data sent too them their all green because there's no control. If the pixels have voltage but no data or control they show up as green red, blue, yellow, or whit line vertically down the LCD panel. The vertical-horizontal section of PAR are controlled by 16 to 32 bit micro-controllers which may need replacing. If its under warranty take it back if not have your local repair center fix the tv for you...

sony bravia kdl 32l4000 - when you turn the tv on, there are color bars running vertically on the screen. they fade from light to dark but do not disappear. is it worth the cost of getting it repaired?
In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

Cannot get out sony bravia tv out of wide screen. When in setting under Wide Mode option for 'normal' screen is not available. The setting is better on HD channels however is still cut off on both sides. On regular channels it is distored side to side, top to bottom, and resolution is not clear
You have probably enabled Auto-format- meaning the tv will automatically choose the best(worst) format. Disable it from the screen menu so that you can change the screen size using the zoom button.

Does anyone have the correct screw size for a LCD Sony Bravia stand attachment (KDL-46W4500/40W4500/40E4500)...we seem to have misplaced them in the move...
while the owner manual does not specify the length etc of bolts it does show there are 4 of them---look like find thread machine bolt---may be able to buy a few at the hardware sore or Home Depot---if the threads are inside the base take it with you as a guide.

pretty stupid as owner manual has everything including dimensions and weight etc but no list of bolts size.
