What causes colored stripes when playing commercial DVDs
Check your cables first to see if they are causing it. Faulty cables can cause all sorts of problems. If that doesn't solve it it could either be that the colour settings are wrong, for example NTSC instead of PAL or vice versa. Sometimes it is something to do with copy protection. In some cases counterfeit discs, or faulty discs. And in some cases a fault on the DVD player.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
40 inch sony bravia making buzzing noises....any suggestions
Hello,
There are 2 small 1.5" fans that are located on the top right and left sides of the screen. These fans are of the non ball bearing type, so the bearings may be wearing out. You can either replace the fan or add a couple drops of oil to it. Remove the label on the back of the fan and put the oil there, it should quiet down. This will work for a while but eventually the fan will need to be replaced.
Good Luck!

Why is sony bravia dark screen
If your TV seems to be darker than you think it should be, it is possible that the problem is with the light sensor. The light sensor will automatically adjust the picture brightness based on the ambient light that is in the room, (i.e. if the room is bright the picture will also be bright, if it is dark the picture will also be dark).
To turn this feature off go to Settings > General Setup > Light Sensor.
I lost the 3 screws to hold the base to the tv
In the instructions for the TV when new, there is a description on how to fit the base which tells you the screw size and length. If you have not got this I suggest going the Sony's website and down load the instruction. Putting too long screws in can seriously damage your TV !
