Hello, I looked at your screen shot of the symptom you are experiencing and it would appear that the very bottom and possibly the next one up CCFL (cold Cathode Florescent Lamp(s)) could be in trouble. If the inverter board(s) was bad the tv would just shut down and blink 4 times but seeing the tv operational but just a dark area near the bottom I would have to say you need to investigate the CCFL problem and replace the affected lamps. Hello, The most likely reason your tv smells bad is that the capacitors located on the main power board are likely leaking. This symptom will eventually cause your tv to act weird such as not powering up at all to powering up but not turn off or anything in between. The tv will not catch fire but you should have it repaired soon. Good Luck, Rich Lilja

The solution I use is S-Video from cable box to TIVO, and from TIVO to TV. That gets you the highest quality signal that the TIVO can handle. To watch true HD signal, switch TV from S-Video input to Hi-Def input and tune to HD channel. I have an HD cable box connected to both outputs, your situation may be different.
