I have a Sony Bravia

Hi Tim,

The most common caused of this symptoms is the faulty(leaky/dried) electrolytic capacitor in the power supply board.

Leaky electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identified. See sample picture below.

jdvillanueva_99.jpg
faulty capacitor with dome at the top.

Dried electrolytic capacitor has no physical indication of fault, you must have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition.

Another option is to replace the entire power supply board. This is more convenient if you are going to DIY because no troubleshooting and soldering required. Click this LINK for the replacement.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

Green light goes off the

Hi,
The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.
Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Power Outage Problems Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV

try cycling the power (unplug 2 minutes) and plug in and wait 30 seconds and turn back on. if this doesn't work, could have been a surge, your protector should have saved it, but could have been through cable or something. surge protectors will guarantee no damage for several years, check with the manufacturer maybe they'll cover the repair.

I have a line going down the middle of my screen,

Almost always a single line means the panel needs replacing. In that case you're better off getting a new television. Change aspect ratio between 4:3 and 16:9. If the line changes its position you should look into repair. If it stays in the same spot you're most likely looking at a bad panel. Good luck.

Recently the picture on regular channels has

I don't believe the trouble is with your TV. My guess is that you don't have adequate signal for the Analog channels. Make sure all the connections are secure.
Does this also happen when playing DVDs?
Have you contacted your CATV or Satellite provider for assistance?
