My 50" Sony Wega KDF-E50A10

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

Picture loss with standby lite flashing

If the standby light is flashing 4 times it indicates the TV is overheating because one of the 4 internal fans has totally failed or is not spinning fast enough. The fans start at about $35 and cost up to $65. Replacing 2 of the fans is quite easy. The other 2 require much more disassembly of the TV. I would suggest obtaining the service manual (not the owners manual) before trying to replace any of them.

My Sony KDF-E50A10 has a

This is a Optical Block problem and I am glad Sony is working out a deal for you. The cost of replacing the optical block would be too expensive to consider. It will only get worse as it is used.
A lamp issue would never give you a discoloration in a certain area of the screen. The picture would just be dark or no picture at all. It would even shut down if the lamp was shattered in most cases.

I hope this helps,

How to fix a fan

had a very similar situation with my Phillips 42 in. LCD TV.

Here was my Problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened it up( Warranty was Expired) and found several faulty capacitors on the PSB. Its pretty common. Major Electronic companies were sold faulty capacitors that fail in 2-5 years instead of 10-20 due to a lack of preservatives. It wouldn't surprise me if you have the same problem. TV will work fine for a few years and then just fail completely or slowly deteriorate.

Here are the solutions
1. Have it Repaired
2. Check for faulty caps and if you find some(budged or leaking) you know you have located a problem
Remove the board and replace the whole thing.
3. If you have some soldering skills you can replace the faulty caps.
Caps are very inexpensive, under a dollar in most cases. I replaced 4 for about $5.00

Hope this Helps.
Good Luck

Light blinking three times, which, I am informed

3 blinks usually means a lamp switch error. Unless they changed the errors. Try reseating the lamp.

I have the Sony KDF

Hello,

The problem is from the lamp of the televisin, it is devloping some fault, therefore it will start to malfunction gradually till it goes completely bad.

The solution to that is for you to open up the television and try to assess the lamp. some of these televisions come with three lamps to you assess the three, while others come with just one, once you assess the lamp and find it faulty, all you need to do is to apply some force to pull it out, and if it is screwed to the board, unscrew it and replace it with a new one.

After doing this, you would be able to enjoy your television once again. Also do not open up the television unless it is unplugged.

Take care and good luck
