Windows XP will be supported to April 2014, if you have the early addition you will need to download service pack 2 and 3 to get the updates. The laptop does not have sufficient ram to support windows 7 and some device drivers may not be supported.

Think about this for a min.

The Primary hard disk cannot be found by the System.
The Diagnostic Utility is ON the Primary hard disk.....OF COURSE IT WON'T FIND IT...

Since the motherboard is not able to even detect the drive as being present, there is nothing YOU can do to get it 'going' unless you replace the BAD hard drive with a new one.

[PS: I hope you've backed-up any important data....]

Remove the main battery and try again, next have the power supply checked for correct voltage, if okay sub out the ram memory one at a time to see if you can start it. The DC jack in the laptop is a common source of trouble, at this point computer must be dismantled to address the situation.

Sounds like the fan may be failing and need replacement. On a system that age, it is debatable whether it is worth fixing.
You can boot to he resource cd and run fan diags is you want to try and confirm

Fans can be found on EBay

The problem that you describe is with the BIOS, please verify that you have the most recent version of the Bios if that the case you can do a few things: 1. First Boot the laptop with the original cd to repair the file. 2. Create a boot cd that contains all the files and reboot the computer and copy all the files to your hard drive.
That should fix the problem

Hello there:
there is a very small hole located on the front of the drive just insert a paperclip in the hole until you feel it a solid object now just press in a little bit further and you will feel it trip the door mechanism and the tray will open it may not be all of the way but it will be far enough so you can get the cd rom out if this still does not work
You will have to remove the plastic strip above the keys and find the 2 or three very small screws and remove them and now the whole cd rom will slide out of the computer now if you want to just remove the cover off the cd rom and you would be able to get to your cd that is in the drive ok?
I hope that this helped you out a lot
best regards Michael
