It wont turn on... i Tried everything it was working and now isnt the Screen stays black when i turn it on I need it thanks
Press the volume button and the power button at the same time. Hold them down untill the diagnostic program starts. Let it run it's course. It will stop on the problem. Fix the issue. I had the same issue. It was a simple world clock setting for me. Go figure?

I have Dell Latitude D610. All of sudden every thing froze on the computer due to which I had to switch my computer off. On turning it on I got a message the my computer failed to read the hard disk. I did the diagnostic test. It failed on DST Short Status Test. The two error codes that I got were 1000-0146 and 1000-0141.
1000-0146
Msg: Unit 0:IDE Status Failed. Status bytes 64 Control Code = 1. Msg = No additional sense information
1000-0141
Msg: No drive dtected
On running diagnostic test from the diagnostics and utilities CD provided along with the computer I performed Express Test. Got the following Errors
Error Code 4EOF:1344
Msg: Block 342932: Oncorrectable data error or media is write protected.
got the above message for many blocks before I aborted the test.
Error Code 4EOF:0650
Msg: IDE Device Failed" The self test failed the read portion of the test.
Can you please help me on what I should do to rectify the problem.
How can I retreive the data on my hard disk.
Thanks.
It appears your hard disk has died and it may not be possible for you to retrieve your data.
Remove your hard drive from the laptop and insert it into an USB harddrive adapter, (they are not expensive and you can use it later as a external hard drive). Then plug it into the USB port of a working computer. The computer should/may see it as an external drive, if you are lucky you will be able to copy your data, if not, you are out of luck.
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their service.

Ok so my dell latitude D610 battery stopped charging and now there is a red flashing battery light. I tried a different charger and the battery still will not charge. Here is how it stopped working. Starts with the computer crashed so i shipped it to dallas and my dad fixed it. He got a new battery and it was working just fine. It had a full charge on it and then he sent it out back to NM. When i got it, the battery had no charge and won't change. How the story may help a little more. Thanks for your help.
The battery light flashing RED/AMber is an indication of a failed battery.
Portable batteries have a life expectancy of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. (roughly 18 months under normal use) After that, the charge life starts to drop off and eventually it will not hold a charge. Because of this, the battery is considered a consumable item and is only warranted for one year from the manufacturer.
Since all the systems listed in the post are D610's (4 to 5 years old) it is not surprising that the batteries are failing.
Dropped Puck, if you replace the battery and a new battery doesn't charge/run the system, then the charging circuit on the MB is failed.

I have a dell latitude d610 I have followed the directions for enabling the wifi connection and still nothing. It is enabled in the bios and Ive been pressing the fn/f2 buttons and nothing. What else can I do?
sevendust4li,
I have just had the exact same problem and i just fixed it.
You are best off downloading & installing the Intel Proset/Wireless software. This will fix your problem automatically. Once you do this you have the option of letting windows manage connections for you or just let the software do it. Your choice.
Make sure that you download it from the Dell site though as the drivers on the Intel site are only generic. Dell drivers and software are specific to your laptop and are directly setup for your laptop.
Here is the link for the software I got and i believe you need and let me know how you go mate. Iether click it or cut and paste it into your browser address bar.

When my laptop boots, after the bios screen i'm left with a black screen with black and white lines at the bottom with a solid white line moving slowly accross them similar to an install process. This takes a while then our windows welcome screen appears and all is fine from then on. But when i reboot the same thing happens. Can anyone help me please?
The issue appears to be cosmetic if the system boots to WIndows and there are no display issues using the system. Some systems I've seen have a bit of video distortion between the BIOS splash screen and the desktop. A couple things may change that. Update the system BIOS and the video driver to the most current available

As soon as I power on My Dell D610 in boot screen appear : '' MANUFACTURING MODE: LEVEL '67'''
''PRESS FN + X TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO NORMAL MODE'. This does not appear to work, it then shows hit F1 for shutdown, nothing happening with that operation either.

how to lock touchpad in Dell E6410. i have windows xp
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 and I am running Windows 7. The only way i could get to the settings to change them was to: go to my C drive and navigate to Programs Files\DellTPad (or do a search on DellTPad.exe). Double click on it and then choose TouchPad Settings. Here you can change the settings on the touchpad.

Unplug the system and remove the battery. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then try powering up -- if it won't, you've damaged the mainboard, and you'll need to replace it.

computer error message
Charles wants answers to this question 2004 made PC,
hyjacks a 6 year old post, why not start your own post
with your facts.?
no OS stated, windows ? what?
is the PC dead, or only shows that error doing X
tell what X is, doing what.
the PC , is old. take out the big battery run on AC only pack
error still?
then CMOS coin cell is dead. if resetting bios fails.
read at Dell.com see what they do first,,,,
I think it means the PC lost power, in the wrong way.
or the 2 batteries in the PC are bad.
