Inspect the pins inside the network connector. They have to be even and stright. Sometimes people put there a phone cord connector and it bends pins 1, 2, 7 and 8. To recover use a needle with slightly bended tip. Hook the pin with the bended tip and pul until strightened.

I had the exact same problem and went through the same steps that he did. It was only when I searched for a physical wireless switch (on the left side of my Dell D630) that the problem was solved. I didn't even know it was there and must have inadvertently knocked into the off position.

I believe that when you turn it on, you have to hold down the CTRL and either F10 or F11 (I've heard of both working) and that should get you into the recovery partition.

If you have tried this with an external monitor (and the line is not there)then the problem is either the connection on your display cable or (more likely) a fault on your LCD panel. If it's still under warranty I would let Dell take care of it. If you want to do it yourself, you need to get a replacement LCD panel, take the screen apart (the top half of the laptop) and switch out the LCD panel.
