10 Steps to Program Your Directv Remote

1. Turn on television.

2. Locate the switch at the top of your remote that allows you to toggle between receiver, auxilary, and TV modes. Slide switch over to"TV".

3. Hold down MUTE and SELECT until a small green light at the top of the switch blinks twice.

4. Enter code 9911.

5. Press and release the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly until television turns off.

6. When TV turns off, press SELECT.

7. Next, press the power button. This should turn the TV back on.

8. With television on, press and hold down MUTE and SELECT again until the small light blinks twice (same as in step 3).

9. Entercode 960.

10. Slide switch back over to "DTV". Your remote is now ready to use!

You just buy one power chord which has made up with high quality meterials. That is all. The chord must be capable of handling enough current concumed by your product. A normal type power chord will meet your need. Take a power chord which has plughin compactability of your household plug point. OK.

This is more often related to power supply failure.You need to check for poor solder connections, defective capacitors, diodes and resistors. As unplugging didn't help, it would need to be repaired. It is not advisable to take this to a tech as the cost of repair would be more than the cost of the new one. If you have electronics repair experience, could read schematics and would be able to keep precautions, i could tell you few pointers and you could repair it yourself.Unless you could go to ebay or other auction sites. You could get the same model used for less than 50 bucks.I have seen a couple of them on ebay.

Try hooking it up to another (working) electrical outlet. If that doesn't work, there's several possible problems.

The most likely is that the box was fried when a larger-than-usual current traveled down the line (or even down the coax if lightning struck and your system isn't adequately grounded); the electrical outlet is either pushing too much or too little power; or your house's ground polarity is reversed.

More than likely your box is bad. If you don't know very much about electrical systems, don't go messing with your ground or any outlets without a wall plate.

Hook up a phone to the phone line to make sure the line is good. If not, then the modem in the box is bad. You can't fix it.

If your last DirecTV appointment was in the last three months, do your last technician a favor and call him if he left his number or the office number. Even though you have a faulty unit, a 'repeat service call' will still harm his stats and possibly effect his work flow. If you call them locally, they will do everything that they can to get you working.

If it hasn't been in the last 3 months, then go ahead and call DirecTV directly. They really want you to be able to dial out with that thing because it makes PPV so much more convenient.

There is one solution you could try first.. what you have to do is force a software upgrade on the unit.. How you do this is reset the receiver and when it says"your directv receiver is starting up" on the remote type 0 2 4 6 8 then it should say new sofware found and let it finish the update and that may solve the issue.. if that doesnt email me [email protected]

Jay .. if you still have the receiver. heres what you do. reset the receiver and when the blue screen comes up saying "Hello your directv receiver is starting up" On your remote type in 0 2 4 6 8 .. then it should go to a screen saying "new software found" . Let it download the update.. That should fix the issue .. However if it doesn't then it could be the hard drive. The pcb board on them usually fries.. but that can be ordered too... let me know how this works... you can email me at [email protected]

My recommendation to you is to look into the Dish DVR. I have it in my home and it is excellent.

Can you use any other DVR......sure.

Try resetting reciever by holding power till it turns off then pull the card. let it reboot and ask for the card, reinsert card and it will reboot again. I problem keeps happening, try to force software updade by, restarting. On the Directv screen (first screen while restarting) press 02468. keep pressing it over and over if you have problems catching it at the right time. It will then go to a blue screen with a load bar. this should solve any conflicts.

sounds like the receiver has gone bad. if you have tried it in numerous rooms/outlets and its not the electrical cord (its plugged in tightly at the back if its detachable) sounds like the receiver needs replaced. if you have the protection plan it MAY be covered under this and MAY be replaced for free. contact directv at 800-531-5000

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.
