Compaq Evo N620c Notebook Questions & Answers
I asked the very nice/ knowledgable person a question regarding another problem- is that against the rules? I beg mercy if I have erred.
first up if your computer/laptop/ desktop needs a new hard drive , buy a sshd as there is no spinning disc to fail cost is around $60.00aud for 100 gig
next you can use your external hard drive to boot from and you can leave it in that configuration if you want the problem here is that you have to leave the disc in the hard drive to boot up and run
the system restore goes back to a previous date that you select but I gather from your statement that the internal hhd is not working
try this--- switch off the unit now switch on and hold down the delete button until the bios screen comes up
now go along the top bar and click on boot ( enter as the mouse will not work)
you can only use the up/down and sideways buttons here ( no mouse operation )
move down until you get boot sequence enter on the first line then yes then in the opened box select cd as boot option one
leave the rest as off enter and then esc on the key board as you only need one option on boot up
install the win os program disc in the external hard drive
close down the computer then reopen it and it should boot from the disc
the desktop could be either hhdd or mother board so you may have to seek help from a geek to diagnose the fault or try this site by describing what the monitor is telling you ( blue screen-black screen no signal etc) again if it is the hard drive consider a sshd ( solid state hard drive with no moving parts ) all the same for desktop . laptop or what ever--it is just a hard drive
I suppose I have confused you more so sorry about that but it is what I do when I need to fix a problem mostly from what I do wrong
Can not enter bios on a evo n620C
The hard drive is faulty and needs to be replaced then Windows installed on the new hard drive plus the laptop's device drivers. Clicking Hard drive When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death". There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.
Cannot locate ram on compaq EVO N620c
The RAM is located under a panel on the LHS of the touchpad.
You need a thin blade/knife to slip under this panel to lift it up and out. It is clipped in with plastic catches on the panel.
How can i disable the
Go to your devise manager, right click on the my computer icon, look for the manage menu. In this Computer manager window look for "Device manager" Find your touch pad device and disable it in the properties menu.
I want to format my hard drive and re install
Some system come with the option to restore default settings so you will not need the CD. Usually there is a utility tool provided by the manufacturer that you can use within windows to restore factory settings or by pressing alt+F10/F11/F12 at the startup menu, and this will take you to restoring the factory settings. If you have not got the utility installed or there is no partition with the default settings, the following link
click here (HP owns compaq so the link will take you to hp website )will take your where you can download this utility for your system. This SoftPaq contains an InstallShield utility that allows the user to restore the original registry defaults for the Compaq Evo N620c. These system default settings include the the default Power management settings. You might have to free space by deleting stuff and uninstalling unnecessary apps it is not exactly formatting but you have no recovery CD and no Partition that includes the factory defaults then I guess it is not a bad option.
By the way Your laptop will have the Authentication key for the operating system of your PC at the bottom of your laptop this I do not know how useful that is but it was worth mentioning good luck
Error loading operating system
system files corrupted may be because of virus
repairing the OS with the OS cd may work if not
formatting is the option
I got a message that
Hi,
Here the reason why youre getting the error message
Remove the non-system disk from your boot device. For example, remove the non-system disk from the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive.
Change your computer's boot sequence in you Bios. Make sure that you select a device that has boot files (or operating system files) installed.
If you start your computer from a hard disk drive, install a bootable operating system (such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7) on the drive.
Thanks for using Fixya
My battery is beeping
First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.
