As i play my stereo if i keep it at a lower volum

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Yes the amp may be too powerful for the speakers but I doubt the protect signal. Let's just hope that the protect is working for you may damage the speaker if it ain't. I don't think that the speaker is faulty for there's no distorted sound even on high volume right? It's quite normal for the speaker to heat up but not to the extent that it will burn you.

Please have the amp be checked if everything is normal plus have a good look on the protect for I suspect that it's not working.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

With a kenwood amp 1000watt 170rms x 2 ,how should

You haven't supplied any model #s so its impossible to say - but Kenwoods don't normally like 2 ohm mono loads.

You're going to have to either use one channel @ 2 ohm... or use each subwoofer per channel on the amp.

For a 2 Ohm mono load - wire all positives and all negatives from each sub to the amplifier's respective (bridged) terminals.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating and POSITIVE TESTIMONIAL is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

What amp do i need for Sony Double XS-L124P5B

Most professional car audio installers and manufactures say that to get the best sound out of your subs, you should run half of the RMS wattage listed on the speakers, which in your case would be 1300w for both which is kinda up there, but you can find a 1200w amp and even a 1000w amp would work great, just make sure that the amp has true wattage listed because they have a habit of over rating them until you read on it later. Another way of going about it would be 2 amps, 1 for each speaker, which would be smaller amps, but you would have to make sure both are getting the same amount. Hope this helps.

45w54 xplod. which wires do i use for the sub?

You want to get a wire that is capable of handling the output from your amplifier. Go down and see your local car audio dealer and he/she will advise you on the best gauged wire to install.

I need a wiring daigram for subwoofer connection

Generally speaking most wiring set ups are the same for any sub and/or head unit.

Here is a diagram that you can refer to which has everything included, and if your just doing the sub to stereo you won't have to worry about the 4 channel amp in the middle or the speakers.

1 subwoofer stopped working in a box for 2

Hello mccanello55,

You need to remove the subs from the box in order to check the internal box wiring. First, make sure that the wire going from the nonworking sub terminals to the enclosure terminals is OK. Then check the "braided" leads on the back of the terminals going to the speaker cone. If the wiring all looks OK, remove the wires from the sub terminals, and use a multimeter set to the lowest ohm range and check the resistance across the subs terminals. You should read somewhere between 3-4 ohms. If the meter reads infinity (that is no reading at all), then the voice coil is open. If it "pegs" (reads "0"), the coil is shorted.

Either open or shorted means the voice coil is no longer working.

I could not find any replacement parts on Sony's support page, so it's most likely that they don't even repair these. They probably just replace the sub if it's under warranty, and if it's not under warranty, they probably recommend that you buy a new one.

Hope this helps.
