You need to reinstall the operating system. This may be possible with the recovery disks you create.

When you get the option to Install you can choose the language you wish to install, you can then install the English version you want instead of Chinese.

1. Check if the Event services are running in the computer.
Press the Windows logo +R keys together to open RUN window, type "services.msc" without quotes and press the enter key.
Locate the Event service and check if the y are running, if not restart the services.
If the services are missing, then reinstall the Sony Notebook utilities and Event services update.

I think the one you need to install is the Utilities Driver like Hot key Utilities Etc.

please go to the device manager, and see if the ( imaging devices ) have the camera, and have no problems,
If there is know ( imaging device ) this means the camera driver is not installed, and you need to install it.

Try burning at a slower speed or a different brand of blank DVD's.

I can think of two things to try that might help.
1. If windows button + r key works and brings up the run command try typing sfc /scannow and hit enter. This will scan you system and fix any broken windows files but this may or may not require a windows install cd. (it will ask if it needs one) 2. When restarting the computer continually press the F8 button on the top of your keyboard until you get a menu in which you can load the computer in safe mode. If that works try to run a system restore or the command above or both to see if that helps. Either do a search for system restore or look under programs -> Accessories ->system tools.

Another way is to do a dual boot - a computer loaded with two separate operating systems on two partitions (C: and D: which you create) on the same hard disc. Sounds like a possible driver issue.
Go to Sony's support site and download the latest drivers for your Camera, namely the WebCam Companion software to ensure you have the proper drivers for your integrated webcam.

A restart is usually needed after the installation.
Test the software to ensure you actually get proper video from the webcam after driver installation.
Test it out on Skype if all goes well.

How old is your sony (model number)? maybee windows xp sp2 already know your sony's hardware.
