My console keeps coming with a disc read error. The problem is not a dirty lens or a damaged disc, it is obviously that the laser either needs realignment or the voltage is low(although I think they only had that problem on the larger models). However, I can't find any information anywhere about how to fix this. What do I need to do?
did you manage to get your playstation fixed?Im having exactly the same problem.Mine is a slimline model can you help me with my problem please? thanks

I haven't played my PS2 in over a month and when I finally get into the mood to play some games The disc won't spin. I took it out to my neighbor and he plugged it in the disc started spinning. So we went inside hooked it up to the TV and tried it again but the disc would not start spinning like it did out side. I've tried my other games and CDs nothing works. At one point It started saying "Reading Disc" then the game would show up but then disappear and it would do it over again. after awhile it would stop. Please can some one tell me how to fix this. or tell me where a PS2 repair shop is in North east Ohio. I don't have much money so I'd much rather fix it my self. I have no way of getting parts off line either so where could I get the parts if I can fix it my self? (if parts are needed)
I had the same problam and i fixed it. Open your disk lid, and at the back on the right there's a small white bit touching the disk. You can push it back and it will spring forward again. Get a tiny bit of tape and stick it back but make sure there is no tape near where the disk will spin. Free and worked for me.

My ps2 was working fine then I decided to play a ps1 game. Now it only plays ps1 games and whenever I try to play a ps2 game it makes a clicking noise every second. I also noticed that the disc is not spinning as fast when a ps2 game is in the system. Can anyone help me?
i love you pleystation 2

My ps2 slim wont play any of my games even a new game the i bought yesterday it was working fine but then i shut it off cause i got tired then 2 hours later i try to play it and it says disc could not be read i cleaned the lens with tissue a bit wet a bit dry and it still wont read then also when i listen carefully it makes a weird ticking sound inside.
The ticking might be coming from the laser itself. It might be getting too closer to the disc and trying to go farther than it is possible. With the disc out, push the laser from the side all the way away from the center and make the console think that the lid is closed. This may take a few tries before it works. If the problem does not seem like it is coming from the laser you may have a stripped wire that is sparking and should be taking in to be repaired. The latter is possible but VERY rare.

The ps2 (slimline) will not read any disc. the laser does not appear to come on at all... i think this may be why it does not spin because if the laser isn't reading, then it won't know that there is a disc that should be spinning???? can anyone tell me if this is right? if so, what am i going to need to replace and where can i find what i need???
ok...well all of you people are just **** him! the actual problem is that you probably dropped the ps2 and the case lid got a bit lose...... what you have to do (if you dont want to buy a whole ps2 case again) is tap the ps2 on the top of the lid when it goes into the cd browser screen and it will work perfectly fine just make sure you dont tap i too hard or else we will have another problem...lol!

how to modify my ps2
good.. now listen to me carefully... i live in Mauritius and i modify ps1-2-3 everyday.. there is a simple way that nobody would think how to mod it.... just remove the lens slowly, cut the yellow wire and seal the red with the blue... thats will make your lens hidden power arise so as it can read any dvd or cd copy... let your brain work!!! how its possible that an original lens cannot play a simple duplicate!!!!

Hi,
My Playstation 2 slim wont read any type of disc at all. It turns on alright and can read the memory card but every time i put a disc in it doesnt even read it, and i dont think it spins either. My brother said he accidently put in his labtop charger into the back instead of the playstaion 2 wire thing (not exactly an electronic expert lol) as both are identical and since then it doesnt read any game or dvd discs.
Help!!! Playstation 2 is the only thing keeping me alive these holidays lol!
xxMoeisha
OK. First of all, put any disc in and turn on the PS2. Push the spot shown here down with something about the size of the TV end of the AV cable.

Watch what it does. Does it stop spinning? If so, see this pic

This piece here is what broke off on my PS2 as seen in the previous image. If you can find some way to glue it back on, you should be back in business.

As a storm was approaching my son was playing game, I unplugged the power supply from the rear of the unit as well as t.v. terminal plugs. After storm passed, I plugged everything back in and the power light stays red and will not turn green. I've tried everything I know . Pleas help.
Thanks, Caleb W.
Sounds like an internal fuse has blown. There are several guides on the net, and a couple forums discussions. Try here:

google it up - if you're not happy repairing it yourself (which needs just a multimeter and a hand full of small, generic fuses) then you'll need to get it professionally mended. which could cost you more than simply buying a new one.

my ps2 won't turn on, not even the red light. I know its not the cables coz i have checked them. help?
Try plugging the system into a known working outlet and also try reseating the power cord.
If after you do these steps you can't get the system to turn on then the main board is bad and you would have to get a new system since the cost of a main board would exceed the cost of a new system.
