This is a common problem with slimline PS2's.

The problem you have got is that the lens unit has failed so it can't read any disks. You will have to take the console to a repair store to have the lens unit replaced. The cost should be around $40 or £20.

Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under custom setup.

When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".

The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".

Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.

Your disk is corrupted due to power failure/termination when it was saving data there.
You must format to continue.

your tray is unalined needs fixing but sometimes alittle electrical great works on the gears plus the belt might be bad you can buy a new one on ebay for a dollar..

Create a valid EA account and continue.

Is there any light(green).If there is no light check your power line(power cable) and if it still doest work give it to authorised Sony shop for repairs.

Give your ps2 to the nearest Authorised Sony shop they would fix.Thats all you can do.

here are some possible steps that you could do for the issue that you are having with the ps2

- try to perform a power cycle by pressing the power button while the computer is off and no power connected to it
- try to clean the lens and disc
- make sure that teeth or gold teeth on the memory cards are clean

good.. now listen to me carefully... i live in Mauritius and i modify ps1-2-3 everyday.. there is a simple way that nobody would think how to mod it.... just remove the lens slowly, cut the yellow wire and seal the red with the blue... thats will make your lens hidden power arise so as it can read any dvd or cd copy... let your brain work!!! how its possible that an original lens cannot play a simple duplicate!!!!

It sounds like you have a faulty disk lense and no matter how much cleaning you do, that won't help the issue.

Sadly the only way to repair a faulty disk lense is by getting it to official tech support. You could try ordering the replacement parts and having it repaired by a third party or yourself but this is not recommended since it voids the PS2 warranty.

The problem is a read error. This means either a misaligned or dirty laser head.
The fix involves taking your ps2 apart, so it's up to you if you feel up to it!

Sadly it sounds like your disk lense has been damaged beyond repair. The only way to fix your PS2 is by getting tech support or ordering the replacement parts and repairing it yourself (not recommended).

you should send it to a technic or get a new reader, but is better if you sell your ps2.

maybe dvd readers lens maybe dirty or broken or laser isn't working and that's why moving part of the reader is smacking against its walls and not seeing the disk... cleaning disk set might work if the lens is dirty but if it still doesn't see the disk after cleaning, you might have to get it repaired... Depending on how old your console is and how much you used it, the laser unit might be worn out.

You could try to carefully clean the lens (carefully!!! to avoid scratches). And if this does not help, you have to replace the old laser with a new one. This can be done in an electronics store (propably many will do this) or if you can, by yourself.
