Hey, I am having this problem, did you ever fix it? How? I really want to play but cant!

Try plugging the system into a known working outlet and also try reseating the power cord.

If after you do these steps you can't get the system to turn on then the main board is bad and you would have to get a new system since the cost of a main board would exceed the cost of a new system.

Most likely caused from dust under the DVD Deck. This requires that you open your console and blow the dust out ( DO NOT USE A VACUUM Tiny parts can be sucked up that will render it completely useless). After you have done this and put it back together again clean the laser as dust will have collected on it from when you blow out the dust. If you do all this and it is still doing the same thing it just could be a case of the poor old PS2 is wearing out.

Try Ebay or go directly to Sony Repair shop, They still stock all parts for all versions of the PS2

You may need to take apart you PS2 and rotate the white gear about 1/8 of a turn or so and test with just the DVD lid on before you put it back together. There are a couple of things that you can try. The main issue is there is a problem with the laser, try to clean the lens of the drive.  If this does not work, then you laser is bad.  You'll have replacement with new laser.

The ticking might be coming from the laser itself. It might be getting too closer to the disc and trying to go farther than it is possible. With the disc out, push the laser from the side all the way away from the center and make the console think that the lid is closed. This may take a few tries before it works. If the problem does not seem like it is coming from the laser you may have a stripped wire that is sparking and should be taking in to be repaired. The latter is possible but VERY rare.

Did you try moving the end of the AV cable that's connected to the PS2 system while it's on? It may be a bad connection on the actual system. If it is, that can really only be fixed by Sony.

If it happens for all your discs then clean the PS2 with a laser lens cleaning kit like this one:http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05829423000P?prdNo=11If it only happens for one disc then bring the disc to a game store like Gamestop or Rock30 Games and have them professionally clean the disk for a couple bucks.

if your ps2 is not a modded one sorry to tell you but yours is a pal ps2 (means you live somewhere in asia europe)so there is some difference i the american ps2 disc(ntsc) and pal ps2 disc both are designed to play in specific consoles so if you bought they console from ntsc territory(japan ,north america) it should work for sure but sometimes in japan and all they sell pals also but there is still chance try returning the cd to the shop and buy a pal disc or you can mod your ps2 from ps2 technicians (they are all around the world,every console shop has one) and then you can play american disc this is the only chance it will only take a small 25 bucks from you just mod it and u can play games u burned from your computer and also any pal ,ntsc territory original discs also

Pls help me my smack down vs raw 2011 loads and say play station 2 then it loads my memory card then it get's black and never come back i was able to play a long time ago nicely other games are working only this is the problem what shall i do

all you need to do is go to the screen where it asks for your password while your there press select on you controller and then type in 7444 it will reset your password and let you make a new one

Hold in the select button while entering the numbers 7444. Otherwise the code won't work. If you do it correctly, it will delete the password and allow you to enter a new one.

Hi,well yur problem is not new.i gues u have played a lot and lot of games in the past in yur ps2 and tht is why mod-chip device is been damaged.It's a serious problem.If u'll not replace yur mod-chip now thn your playstation2 will be damaged soon.u live in india and mod-chip will cost around RS-300.
