If you are talking about the PS2 "FAT" or "SLIM"? The fat has a switch in the back that cuts all power, but the slim stays in standby mode unless you unplug the system.

There're 2 switch on the motherboard ,functional for closed the cover to turn on the DVD game ,check the 2 switch is that possible way working on that. Take off ps2 casing ,using 2 finger click on ,once the laser moving abnormal ,which mean one of the switch functional not well in the system ,crab a solder iron bypass on the switch .

Download the ISO file from internet ,burn to a DVDR using image burn software .it might useful

Checking yours AV cable is that possible broken ? Any sound when you connect on yours tv? If have sony welcome screen logo sound ,this mean motherboard output resolution chipset burn or dry join .well does not show up anything after changing AV cable ,it might be ram or CPU chipsets .

Solution menthol faster crab a new ps2 slim lens for changing ,this is faster way for solved yours problem.

Sometimes someone will have somethhing sticky on their fingers when they press the power reset button and cause it to glue in place. What you have to do is Remove the screw covers, and 6 screws from the bottom of the slim. These covers are square and one is under the warranty sticker. Tow of the rubber pad feet will remove to expose the screws. Use a knife to pry up the covers. Two of the rubber feet do not remove, they are the ones closest to the front. Open the case, and check to see if you can clean up the power switch button. It is attach to the top half. no problem getting the plastic top half wet when you clean it.

I may not be the laser asembly or anything you described because absolutely nothing happened when you put a disc in. I may be a little switch at the very front of the drive right at the bottom right (near the power button) that may be damged or not being pressed by an piece of plastic on the same place on the lid. That switch recognises if the lid is closed or not so it know when to stop or start a disc. Try closing the lid harder or pushing more on that switch. hope that helps!

My power button got jammed as well and I used a small flat head screwdriver to pop it out and it was fine. If that doesn't work you might want to tack it to a video game repair shop or try to open it and see if the button broke off and is keeping the button inside the system.

There are so many problems that can cause the ps2 to not work it may the power cord the power board if its a new version so try to find which of these have the problems and replace it if its a problem with the mother board then you may have to spend some dollars well you said you washed it? Well its quite disturbing to hear but try to give some heat to the console and take them to sonys repair shop if youre lucky it may survive so good luck

I had the same problam and i fixed it. Open your disk lid, and at the back on the right there's a small white bit touching the disk. You can push it back and it will spring forward again. Get a tiny bit of tape and stick it back but make sure there is no tape near where the disk will spin. Free and worked for me.

OK. First of all, put any disc in and turn on the PS2. Push the spot shown here down with something about the size of the TV end of the AV cable.

1. This keeps the disc from spinning when the cover is open.
2. push this down while following the instructions from the first pic. Does the disc work?
3. There's usually a small object that pushes #2 down. Chances are it broke off.

This piece here is what broke off on my PS2 as seen in the previous image. If you can find some way to glue it back on, you should be back in business.
