Laptop isn't working
have the charger tested, the original battery may have been flat, because of charger failure rather than battery failure. try an automotive connector if one is available

How do I replace a Compaq Presario V5000 laptop keyboard?
You need a flat bladded thin screw driver to prise off the long cover
the runs along the top of the keyboard and just below the screen. Make
sure you remove any screws at the back of the screen hinges, and along
the top above the battery housing (you need a small posidrive
screwdriver for this). You will find there is a screw on the underside
of the laptop that holds the keyboard in place from underneath, plus
two or three very small screws on the top at the screen end. When all
the screws are removed you can lift the keyboard up from the screen end
and pull (gently) away from the touch-pad end. Tilt it up and you will
see the keyboard data ribbon, don't twist it or pull it as you will
damage it.
hope this helps

Presario v5000 laptop
First of all, check in the Device Manager if you find any yellow ! marks indicating that the drivers are not properly installed or corrupted.
If you find any entries, try reinstalling those drivers by right clicking on the entries with yellow ! mark and selecting Update Drivers.
Additionally, try reinstalling the drivers for the Keyboard and Touchpad from within the Device Manager by following the steps listed below :
Please follow the steps to go to Device Manager :
Right Click on My Computer and select Properties in the list.
Now go to Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.
Device Manager window opens in a seperate window.
Now click on the [+] mark next to Keyboards to expand the tree.
In the list that appears, right click on Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard and select Uninstall.
Now, restart the computer once the uninstallation is completed so that the default keyboard drivers will be automatically reinstalled.
Now, go back to the Device Manager and click on the [+] mark next to Mice and other pointing devices and if you find any entry with Synaptics Touchpad pointing device, right click on it and select Uninstall and restart the Notebook.
Now, download the Touchpad Drivers from the Notebook for XP from the link below :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34473.exe
Copy and paste the link in the address bar of a new internet explorer window and press Enter.
Save the file in My Documents or Desktop and double click the file once it is saved.
This will install the Touchpad drivers in the Notebook.
Now, try removing the USB keyboard and mouse to use the Keyboard and Touchpad of the Notebook.
If you are still unable to use the Keyboard and Touchpad of the Notebook, probably, there are internally damaged....need to get them checked by technicians.

Videos on internet
Basically, when you try to watch videos through Internet from video hosting websites like
Youtube or
Google Videos, the videos will be first copied into a temporary location which is also called
Buffering in the computer before playing.
But, if you try to play video directly after opening the link, there will not be enough time available to download and save the video into temporary location(
Buffer) because of which it may pause in between while playing.
However, you need to pause the video after opening so that it will be
Buffered and then it will be played without pausing.

For my dvd rom region
Region Code is concidered when you play any DVD movie directly from the Drive.
Like you insert any Video DVD in the Drive and right click on it and play directly where the Region Code comes into Picture.
You will be able to change the video code 4 times to use Video DVDs of different regions. However, the fifth time, what ever the DVD you use, the Drive will be locked to that region.
We need to check whether your Notebook is able to detected the DVD Drive or not.
Follow the steps listed below to check it :
Insert any DVD which you used earlier like a Data Disk or Video Disk in the DVD Drive of the Notebook and close the tray.
Now, go to My Computer and right click on the DVD Drive of the Notebook and select Open or Explore.
If you are able to see the content of the DVD / CD, the Notebook is able to detect DVDs.
I recommend you to copy the video files in the DVD into the Hard Drive and play them since this will reduce the noise generated by the DVD Drive while playing video from DVD and also its life time will be increased.
You need to copy the Video_ts folder which contains the video files in Video DVDs.
Hope this helps.

Compaq Presario Laptop (M2000 series) hinge
Hello Wendy names Nick and just done hinge work on the Presario V5000z and readin up on your problem my suggestion would be lookin on ebay or various sites for the hinge then go about replacing it.
Steps involved in replacing the hinge start with removing power and battery
Next come the more difficult step, removing all the screws fron the bottom of the unit (this is done to gain access to the wireless cables which run from the wifi card to the lcd display)
once the base is removed then you carefully use a flat head screw driver an near the top row of keys (while pressing a few of them down) you will see a few notches which you can pry off the top cover giving you access to the lcd screen connector and bracket anchoring screws.
hopefully you disconnected your wireless antenna leads by now, and also disconnected the lcd cable from the board.
now you have the lcd display free from the base, now to change the hinge.
under the lil rubber circle pads are screws holding the brazel to the front of the lcd, this should be removed to get access to the lcd itself and thus the hinge brackets.
remove replace carefully i might add. then do everything in reverse to get the system reassembled and there ya have it
hinge has been replaced
P.S. careful steps should always be taken to prevent shock damage to any computer system when working on internals, also mind bending and pincing cables since they can most times be easilly damaged

Internet connection light
Help & Support has everything that's in the owner's Guide. Just ask it.
Top left button, above the keyboard, is Wireless On/Off.
If nothing happens, go to CONTROL PANEL / NETWORK CONNECTIONS. R-click on Wireless Network Connection. L-click DISABLE. Wait about 5 seconds, do it again and L-click ENABLE. That should reset the modem and get things going.
After you establish an internet connection, go to START / PROGRAMS / HP / HP (SOFTWARE) UPDATES and install the latest patches. They will include aa newer version of HP Wireless Assistant
Good luck.
