I tried to run my air conditioner the other day, but the house started to smell like dust and dirt. If I pull the vent off and clean in there, how far back do I need to go to get all the dirt? I tri

Not all of your question was view-able, but sounds like your drain tube may be plugged if you are getting musty smells. Inspect the drain tube for clogging (lower right of unit). Pour a glass of water over the metal fins and watch to make sure it drains correctly down and out the tube. Look outside or at the far end where it drains and be sure water comes out. If not, try a bristle brush style pipe cleaner wire to insert and clean the opening. Once its draining well, you should use a mild bleach solution and spray bottle to hose down the entire inside heat exchanger. Never put anything into/between the metal fins except cleaning fluid. Using a brush on the fins will mostly just push the dust back and compact it so the water can't dislodge it. After a good cleaning, it will help to run just the fan or heat mode for a while so the vents dry before using cooling mode. John

1994 mountainaire motorhome AC

Are you sure they are getting hydro & 12 volts DC? Check all breakers & fuses. You should at least hear clicking at units when turned on. Not likely both would go like that. Does your unit have a switch to go from one to other or both? What brand & type of thermostat are you using?

The outside unit is making a squealing noise. It's

sounds like its more than likely the fan motor. the bearings in the motor are notoriuos for making a squeeling noise. there arent any other parts that would make this noise. unless youre a special case. i doubt it. if youre mechanically inclined there are ways of checking the motor. If you have an amp meter you can check the amp draw on the fan motor. if it reads higher than on the label of the motor then the motor needs to be replaced. if the amp draw is good the you can try to drop some oil in the motors lube port. Inside unit has leak. would

If it is a very small leak there are products made that can be put in the system through the suction sideYou will probably have to go to a hvac supply outlet to find them and if it is more than a tiny leak they won't work.
I would replace the entire unit as you will spend close to the same amount to cover all the extra labor to replace just the coil.Good luck and thank you.
