I have an optiplex GX260. Started running slowly, even to come off screensaver, then just died. Now, it shows a green power light, the MOBO shows an orange light, the power supply fan is running, the HD spins....but it will not boot or even give any BIOS beeps. The monitor says no signal. I have reset the MOBO by unplugging and letting it sit...nothing. What could be causing this?
I had the same issue and accidentally discovered a temporary solution. Unplug the power from the back of the machine, open the case and unplug the ATX power connection from the motherboard. With the ATX cable unplugged, plug the power cord back in. When you try to turn the computer back on the power light should turn orange and fans should be spinning, with it powered on plug the ATX connector back in. That should turn the computer off. Turn it back on and it should boot fine. You can even shutdown and restart, but when the power is unplugged you will have to go thru the same process to get it back up. This sounds crazy but it worked on mine. Good Luck!

Everything was working great, not even any slow starts (XP Home Ed). We shut the computer down, went on vacation for 6 days, came home -- now when you press the power button the light flashes yellow and nothing happens. I have hunted online and found suggestions from replacing the PS to messing with the front USB ports. Any suggestions?
Hi
Power up the Optiplex GX260 and check the QUAD Pack Diagnostics LEDs (located at the back). Compare the LED pattern to http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/solvprob.htm#1167139 for more info.
Ideally, to troubleshoot and resolve the issues, try removing all PCI devices, disconnect all external devices/peripherals including keyboard and mouse. You may leave the Monitor connected. Power up the PC and check for successful Power On Self Test (POST). If POST completes (generally fails on "Keyboard not present"), shutdown, connect keyboard and try POST again.
If all goes well, install PCI devices one at a time and test successful POST. This will help identity a failing device.
If issue persists, after removing all devices, remove the CMOS battery for about 90 seconds and try POST again. If same, remove all DIMMs (Memory) and check for beep codes. Compare beep pattern to http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/solvprob.htm#1176760.
NB: Ensure to remove power lead and press power button briefly to use up flea power before working in the system.
If the system beeps, it suggests that the CPU and systemboard are "likely" fine. Install one DIMM at a time and test successful POST. If there no beeps then the systemboard and/or CU is/are at fault.
Regards
Mike

I upgraded optiplex GX260 with Windows Vista. I lost video resolution on the monitor. Can you email me the link for the driver? Thanks, Harman
Hi all,
I tried numerous solutions for this issue and none of them worked except this one. I tested it with Vista Ultimate and don’t know if other Vista versions have the same drivers but here’s what worked for me:
1. Right click ‘Computer’ then left click ‘Properties’ to open up System window.
2. Click ‘Device Manager’
3. Click ‘+’ on ‘Display Adapters’ and you should see the drivers for your video. Right click and select ‘Update Driver Software...’
4. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and click ‘next’.
5. Click ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’
6. Untick ‘Show compatible hardware’
7. Select ‘Intel Corporation’ then select ‘Intel 82865G’. Click next.
This will install the drivers. No they are not the same drivers for the hardware but they work a treat!

I recently got a Optiplex GX 260 and reinstalled windows xp. Under device manager, I'm missing 3 things. They are Video Controller(VGA Compatible) Ethnernet Controller and Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Will
if you don't have the cd with the drivers and utilities, then you can download the drivers online with another computer. (you will need a thumb drive or cd to save it on) you will also need to make sure you know what brand of ethernet card your computer came with. once you get that ethernet card working, you can get online and download the remaining drivers, possibly through windows update. be sure to select custom update, not express, so it will search for the hardware drivers for you.

I am down to only 2 more drivers to download and can't find where they are located. Could someone help me where I can download the ethernet controller and USB controller for a Dell Opiplex GX 260.
Thanks,
Will
go to the Dell support site and enter in your Service Tag # -- this should give you access to all the drivers that originally came with computer,

Am trying to fix my daughter's Dell Optiplex GX260. When I first got it, it took 22 minutes to boot to desktop. Discovered it had two operating systems on it, W2K Server AND Windows XP. Have no idea why/who did that (some so-called repair guy). Formatted hard drive, did clean install of W2K Pro and updated (flashed) BIOS (from Dell A02 to A09). Now it takes 9½ minutes to boot to desktop, so we're making progress. Have a Hiren's Boot Disk & got a message on that where it said L1 cache was disabled. Is this what's making it run so slooooow?? Nowhere in BIOS screens can I find a place to reset factory default settings...anyone know where this is in the BIOS? Please, need your help. Thanks in advance!
sir try to remove the pill battery its in the inside of ur box that return it that might give an error said that u shud configure again ur time and date but that is easy but taht will increase teh speed and gives a reset to full factory defaults

I tried adding the network driver to my dell optiplex gx620, and a thing came up showing how to reinstall the driver. When I went into the device manger to do what it said. There were no network drivers. Where are they?
