PCI Express™ x16 , slot. the spec page says it has this slot. so most new video cards will run in this slot but not over 75watts unless the PSU is upgraded for powerful fast GPU cards with its own power cable. when new this card was an option over a decade ago ATI RADEON X300 SE PCI Express 128-MB DDR single head DVI with TV out they offered 4 vidoe card choices then. the PSU is 364watts. (marginal for any fast new Video cards) simple answers:

1. only you memory seller can match up correct memory types DDR-667 or faster. like Kingston, as them !!!
2. 4GB max mem.
3. lacking correct PSU only 75watt Video cards work or less.
4. with correct PSU the sky's the limit,!!! on power.

why upgrade such and old 12 year old system. are you dreaming of running fast $60 games? it wont work. it's too old. tell why you need the video card first?. usage matters first.

so what is the 1st drive, and is it IDE or SATA. or is one a why are you using XP is it 32bit or 64? ill answer for 32.. its a dead OS,totally dead,and virus magnet and the MS PnP severs are shut down. XP also MUST have the SP3 installed or the THING cant find any modern, SATA chips and many other devices. im looking at your MOBO now, it has 4 sata jacks 1 floppy and 1 IDE jack let me guess this is what Drive one, IDE (pata) is plugged in , then you add a new sata drive to the old sata ports and XP pukesssss, as all XP does (cept mine) SSDD. Same stuff different day, so you can either use w7 like all savvy folks do or find the driver missing that MS cant find, XP is dead. but wait XP needs a Floppy drive to load the correct driver. but if XP is running now, we dont need that only on XP installs. ive no idea on what sata chip is there, in our shop we scan it to find that and HP does not tell this. WHY BOTHER ? , why risk bricking it.?why not ask HP how to do that, (fixya is not HPi think you are like 1 , in 1billion owners doing this.?but is done by value added PC re-sellers, and is covered in the HP books. Make sure your Sata connection start from Sata 0 and on up. You'll get the 1796 error when you have sata drives or devices plugged in other sata connections, Like: Your first Hard drive in sata 0 your second drive in sata 1 your optic drive in sata 2....You system (BIOS) will automatically start at sata 0 then sata 1 and so fourth. hope this helps ya and thank you for using FixYa. check the bios settings...if onboard video is enabled or not....
if this does not solve the problem...try to replace the psu...with a good psu from corsair...

You have a problem with HP connectivity. When I moved my dx7100 motherbard into another casing I experienced that error and also chassis fan not detected error. Chassis fan error is easy to remove, You only need a fan with at least 3 cables (with sensor) and plug it into 4 pin chassis fan connector. Audio conector have 10 pins (eight pin missing for orientation (with followed numerication2 4 6 101 3 5 7 9If you only want to get rid of the error ( with no use of back audio(use of another soundcard)) then short pins 2 and 7. But if you want to use back connectors, then you must bridge with jumpers 1-3 for microfone, 5-6 for audio L and 9-10 for audio R.I've bee searched thru internet and didn't find this trick anywere.
