UPDR150 Thermal Photo Printer: My Sony UPD-150 is printing on only 3/4 of the 5X7...
One of the pins is bent. Its not closing completely so when it prints the heads are not touching the media evenly causing this effect. We have four of these printers and have seen this before. You need to take some pliers and straighten the bent pin in the door to match the one on the opposite side. These pins are located near the top edges of the printer door.

1
Attempt to set the printer to
online. This may not often work but it's the first action to take. Go to
"Settings" and then "Printers". Right click on the "Printer" and select
"Use Printer Online". Test the printer to see if it now prints.
-
2
Clear any print jobs. Double
click on the "Printer" after performing the above step. Go to the
"Printer Menu" and select "Cancel All Documents". There could have been a
stuck print job
that would cause the printer to go offline. Try once again to set the
printer back online and try printing a test page.
-
3
Turn on the printer. Make sure
the printer is turned on and turn it off, wait a minute and then turn it
on again. Check to see if the is jammed. Check all the network
connections to make sure none are loose. Repeat the above steps again if
necessary.
-
4
Restart the computer.
If this doesn't work, you will have to reinstall the drivers. Go to
"Settings" then "Printers" and select the printer. Right click on the
printer and choose "Properties". Under the "General" or "Details Tab"
look for the driver button and select it and choose the driver again.
You may also have to download the driver from the printer manufacturer
website.
-
5
Reinstall the printer. Under
"Printers" in the "Settings" menu, go back and select the printer, then
delete the printer and reinstall the printer through the add printer
wizard. Use the latest printer driver from the printer manufacturer's
website.

How do you clean the print heads on the UPDR 150
RESOLUTION
Clean the Thermal Head, black rollers, and gray roller with 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol to remove any visible debris.
The Rollers should be cleaned with a lens cloth and Isopropyl alcohol as needed, or every other Print Pack
TechSpray Wipes may also be used.
- Remove the print media and protect it from contamination from any tabletop grime.
- Use "Canned" air such as Dust Off or other similar products should be used to clear out any dirt and dust within the printer.
- Gently rub from left to right while rotating the grey roller and larger black roller to remove any remaining dust.
- Use more air to clear away any remaining particles.

The fact is, what you should have is one thing only, i.e. go to the printer menu/maintenance/align. This will perform an alignment of your colours. The process many consume about 2 to 3 sheets of paper. Now, for SONY printers the nomenclature may be slightly different (for instance match/register etc may be used), but the procedure is same. Just look for anything that implies alignment and you are there. The truth is nothing is likely wrong with the machine.
Good Luck & God bless!

Sony UP-DR150 4x6 "ribbon error"
The black spool of the ribbon has a built in chip, If that chip is damaged it renders the ribbon unuseable. Be very careful if you take out party used ribbons and re insert them later.

Scratch on print
Sounds like dust within the front compartment. Remove the ribbon AND the paper roll. Give the unit a blow out with compressed air. Also wipe the print head with an alchol wipe.
