You may get any of these errors when you’re using a Mac with OS X 10.2.x or later and Classic is running in the background.

These same problems can occur if Classic is configured to launch when you log in to OS X. (You can enable/disable this feature by checking Start Classic when you login in the Classic section of theSystem Preferences, as shown below).

Epson now have an updated driver which supports scanning in OS X while Classic is running. You can download the latest TWAIN Driver and Epson Scan Utility from the Perfection 2580 Photo Downloads page

Please try the following to resolve your issue:
1. Unplug the USB cable and the AC adapter from the back of the scanner.
2. Toggle the Transportation lock (located on the bottom of the scanner) back and forth 5 times, ensuring that the lock is all the way in the unlock position.
3. Reconnect the USB cable and the AC adapter cable, and then try to scan.

I cannot send you a CD -- I do not have one but I can show you where on the internet you can download the drivers and manuals for this machine. According to Epson's Vista support page even if I had a CD you would still need to download the Vista drivers. (They apparently were released after the CD)

Epson does not seem to have instructions on how to install the downloaded software.Try installing this the first two in the order they are in the list they are the only ones applicable to windows Vista. (assure you only install downloads for VISTA.

The only thing I can think of is to turn you to be scanned image up side down in the scanner bed.. IE Rotate 180' As another work arround simply open up Paint etc,and rotate the image 180' and save, ya should be all good.

I am sure the original poster will have probably replaced the unit by now but I just had a similar problem with my Epson Perfection 2480 Photo scanner so I think it is still worth posting the solution in case other people hit this problem in the future. All I had to do was put the switch underneath the scanner to the "unlocked" position and then reboot the unit. Hey presto it burst back into life. It's annoying to see that the manual seems to suggest that the red light means the unit is "dead" !

Troubleshooting Paper Reversal in Printers: *Confirm that options related to paper handling are set correctly by checking for specific buttons or switches that relate to paper handling or reversing. *Ensure that paper is loaded properly to avoid feeding problems. *Remove any dust, particles, or paper remnants from the rollers, as they can impede paper flow. *If other measures fail, reset the printer to its initial settings to resolve potential software glitches.

If you take is apart you may find jammed gears or dry lubricant causing a 'paper jam', due to its age and storage.

Try a hard reset of the printer. Oddly, the 034019 is not an error code, I have reason to think. It is a contact number, I believe.
