- ran for 9 years and die just now.
- or bought it like this dead, garage sale $1 PC?
- what, tell history first, found it at the Goodwill(tm)?
laptop dead , as old as year 2007( C14 dated by me)
fans dead?<< all evidence matters it is a PC.
screen for sure 100% totally
dead?, no Dell SPLASH screen, and POST progress missing (green bar) is the LCD dead. most are this old. CCFL lamps, die at 5years, not last 9, used 8hr/day
do the flash light test yet.? see data there means CCFL is dead.!!!!
https://www.pcdied.com/monitors_and_screens/flash-light-trick.html#flashlighttest
wrong power pack used?
battery means what?, huge BATTERY or COIN cell or
both. guessing
huge. IMG it has 2 batteries,? yes.
gee the coin cell is now bad and all PC s fail for this at 7 years, or just tad more, 7 is max life, EOL
CMOS RTC COIN cell battery.(with pig tails and plug) page 190 in your free manual read it.
there are in fact about 20 causes, due to 20 modules in a laptop avg.
what matters first is those silly short lived batteries.
that only last a 10th or less the life of silicon chips.
top fails are Batteries all, then HDD bad.
My bios , See the NVRAM a mess, (coin dead)
some bios go to black screen thinking it is being hacked.(modern trick) called blocking the :"guy in the middle paranoia"
others older tell you and error CMOS Checksum failure.(nicer)
other PC the BIOS will tell endless lies, based off of dead settings
even demands a Password that
never every existed before.
we call this CHAOS. never diagnose CHAOS. fix the batteries first
NEW.
on the harder fails we must strip the PC down to find what is shorted.
after new COIN and resetting BIOS in page 1.
or wrong power pack
or any 20 other things shorted.
did you first remove all USB devices, just PC and power pack
and no huge battery allowed now testing and a new coin cell is now.
your coin cell is 9 years old that is is bad or has zero future ever.
we replace it and do the 9 steps here
https://www.pcdied.com/cmos.html#Reset_only
EOL , end of life 101 , pesky laptops 9 years old.
CCFL lamps dead, 2010 LED began older are CCFL and all are dead now ,expect rare hangerqueens, (means never used ever 9year till now) (as in NOS, new old stock in a box never used for 9 years)
- all batteries are bad (both are)
- HDD is bad. never seen one go 9 years, not me, (9 years used)
- 5 maybe.
- assumes no usb devices connected (shorted)
the hard part is PC is worth zero
and fixing this in order of cheaper to expensive ends up with the classic econ101 problem, putting up good money after bad.
as in a $100 saddle on $5 horse as my grand pappy stated, born 1890. (He be wise then and now)
PCs older than 2010 are not fit to use ever, and have zero value.
for sure dead.
buy a PC i3 CPU and up for a future.
