Dell 1503FP 15" LCD Monitor Questions & Answers
Dell 1503FP works, but won't start up again for a few hours
Hello there.
Seems like electronics pack up but try an old one. disconnect all the data cables from your monitor side(HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, USB etc.) or computer side if the ones on display are built-in. Leave only the power cable. Unplug the monitor`s power cable. Press the POWER button on the front of the display and keep it pressed for 45 secs. Plug everything back and give it a try.
Good luck.
Tv circuit diagram
if the monitor led only turns on initially and then off this is an indication that the backlight circuit has failed. from memory the transistors(small) involved are close to the small transformers, usually 4 of them and 2 have failed, the safety shuts off the monitor. chassis are typically clipped together and hard to pull apart. goodluck
I want my monitor to
You didn't say which OS you're running. However, it looks like you need to restart your computer in safe mode. This
URL explains how to get in safe mode. When the computer boots the video it will look a bit grainy and you won't be able to see the entire desktop without using the scroll bars.
Both XP and Vista
don't allow you to perform such an operation through the regular
procedure and, as a result, you will only be able to get a screen
resolution of 800×600 with the consequence that some icons and programs
won't be displayed correctly. This is because Safe Mode
just loads only basic services and drivers which are strictly necessary for
Windows to run.
Fortunately, by employing the following techniques, you can get around this restriction permitting you to get whatever screen resolution you want.
Windows XP:
- Right click on your desktop.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Under Screen Resolution, drag the pointer to the right (where higher resolutions are located).
- Click Advanced.
- On the new window click OK, without modifying anything.
- Done, you should have successfully changed the resolution settings.
Windows Vista:
- Right click on your desktop.
- Click Personalize.
- Click Display Settings.
- Under Resolution, drag the pointer to the right (where higher resolutions are located).
- Click Advanced Settings.
- On the new window click OK, without modifying anything.
- Done, you should have successfully change the resolution settings.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Learn about bad caps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/ he can make you a set of caps for you.
Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.
Please leave rating if it helps.
I have trouble turning on my dell 1503fp monitor.
Sounds to me like there might be some bad capacitors on the power board. When they go bad the have a puffy silver top to them instead of the normal flattop on them.
If you can get inside of that monitor then look for capacitors that look puffy. If you find some then make sure you buy new ones of the same UF rating and at least the same voltage or higher. You will need soldering skills. You would need to unsolder the old ones and put the new ones back on with the striped side facing the striped side on the board.
That should resolve the problem of the power board. If you look at the power board and you don't find any bad capacitors then you'll need to get a new monitor cause the power boards for that monitor is not available.
Monitor won't work
Please try it on another PC first, just want to make sure. Then read below and look at the Dell albums before DIY repair.

Have choice of Dell 15 in 1503FP
I am angry with dell computers...however their monitors are without equal in my opinion. More settings on the dell monitor. Also i have had dell monitors going on eleven years and have not had one single problem. No I don't work for them LOL:)
Dell model No. 1504FP will turn on for 3 sec then off
THE PROBLEM IS THE MONITOR IT SELF.
IT IS TIME TO BUY A NEW MONITOR. I KNOW ALOT OF OF US CANNOT AFFORD A NEW MONITOR EVERY TIME ONE BRAKES, I HAVE FOUND THAT SECOND HAND STORES SALE THERE MINITORS FROM 1-2 DOLLARS PER INCH, I PICKED UP IBM FLAT SCREEN 20" AROUND 20.00 USD. AND IT STILL RUNNING AND I HAVE HAD IT FOR A YEAR OR MORE NOW.
The monitor turns off and on repeatedly.
There is a loose connector on the cable or the cable attachment on the PC board. Jiggle the connector as its connected and see if this causes the LCD to fire up.
No Picture
Put a flashlight up to it to see if you can see the screen working. The lights for the screen may not be working. Usually the inverter board or bulbs are burned out. You can light up the screen with a flashlight and see the "output" from the pc but it will be very hard to see.especially during the day.
My monitor does not work.
try unplugging the monitor cable frm the back of the computer & make sure the monitor is connectd to a known good wall outlet.....chk if it shows any self test on the monitor......if it shows anything thn it is related to the port on the computer or the video card.....bt if it doesnt shw anything, u might hv to replace the monitor
