you need a third party application /codecs that recognises the sony protocol e.g. mts ext that can transcode those files either into mov,mpeg2 etc environment so that the imac recognise them
The demo mode is on by default so all you need to do is disable it. It should be on a 10 minute time.
You need to go into the setup menu then PICT.APL menu scroll until you see the Demo select that then set to disabled. This is in your user manual under the Using The Menu chapter and in the PICT.APPL.menu section of that which is about page 64 or so.
If you don;t have a user manual with you here is a link to Sonys PDF version just in case you get stuck and need to look something up.

I searched under HDR-HC3 firewire driver and got the above link.
It says the following:
Hi..
The problem was a missing MSDV.SYS file.
Thanks D.

Actually, on the Sony site it says that no additional drivers are required to connect the camera in Windows XP, Vista, or 7.
But, the user of this camera and firewire noted that he was having trouble convincing windows of this.

Another link that talks about the firewire problem follows:
The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Sony has a generic software package for your model, but it appears that it is only for xp users. I recommend getting a program like PICASA to do that. You can get it free at this link: http://picasa.google.com/
Deck assy will need to be repaired or replaced. The only other thing that you can try (before taking it somewhere) is to unplug the camcorder from any type of power source, leave it unplugged for about 10 minutes, and try again. Also, make sure that your tape is not damaged in any way. www.austintelstarservices.com
Re: "LCD is showing the film with a red background."
LCD screen gets the signal in three color channels sent through three different contacts, red, green blue. In your case blue, green or both blue and green channels are gone. (if problem is either green or blue, screen will be violet or pink instead of red)
That means that either the ribbon cable is broken or the LCD screen is bad. Repair is done replacing the whole LCD assembly that costs about $40.

Hello. This is a great camcorder but it does need occassional maintenance. It will need the heads cleaned ,possible torque adjustment or replacement of the video drum unit. I recommend that you take it to your local camera shop that does this kind of work. If you do not have a shop nearby go to Sony.com and ship it in for the tuneup. J.
HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME PER SONY TECHS:
Take?»¿ OUT the battery or disconnect the AC cord.
Turn the camera ON (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.
Plug battery or AC cord back in.
VOILA!
Worked for me and I had the stupid C32:11 error code for weeks! Door would not close. Followed the SIMPLE and SAFE instructions and IT WORKED! Just like magic. I couldn't believe it! Save your money TRY THIS!
