100 meter distance of router

The rule I follow when using a signal booster, is read the manual of my gateway and check the Max range of coverage, if it is 50 meters I'll place my signal extender at 25 - 30 meters away from the Router, if you go to the edge of coverage circle, your signal extender will suffer unstable signal, and would fail to boost the signal.

There are actually 3 models of the WL-542. Go to this page and select "All downloads" in the section matching your model. You will find the exact model number on a sticker on the side or under your WL-542.

I have a 3com ADSL

Hi there,

What signal does the router broadcast b, g or n?

Please make sure that you are using the correct, passphrase or wireless key to get in to the network.

If the new laptop connects on another network then it means that the problem is not with the laptop.

Here's what you can do try to power off the router, unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds and then try turning it on again.

Once the router is up and all the lights are on check if your windows xp laptop can still connect and then try connecting the new laptop.

If the same problem happens you may want to rebuild the network and start a new one to make that the configuration will be ok.

Hope this helps!

I have a 3 COM

Hello,
To secure your router, you need to set it's password. The default password is "admin". But I would suggest you change the password to something else.
The procedures for all these are long, so I would be directing you to your manual, but in case you don't have the manual, click the below link to view your manual and follow my instructions below.
http://adsl.aruba.it/manuali/3comOCWireless.pdf
To get to the password section, you need to access wizard. Go to page 29. Read and follow instructions to run wizard.
Now, to change the password, go to page 47. Read and follow instructions there.
Lastly, if you forgot your password, go page 105. Read and follow instructions.
I don't think you should have any problems after following the above closely.
Good luck.

Laptop running 0n win 7 wont connect to router

1. you will have to designate the laptop or allow it to connect by entering it into the 3com router.
2. try connecting to the router via ethernet cord (that is connecting with a physical straight through cord) that came with the router.
If connected with this then you will have to go into the router via the IP set 192.168..0.1 depending on the router ip for loging in.
2. Go to the "wireless setup" and enter your MAC address for the laptop in the permissions list in the router. Instructions on how to do this is at the manufacturers site. Step by step.
3. Do the following step if instructions not found.
1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP adresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Cant change MTU value on 3com officeconnect router

no, the MTU is being overridden by the cable provider. Most ISPs use 576 as the default MTU as this was shown to be the most effective packet size some years ago; unfortunately, that was before streaming video and large downloads, but some ISPs haven't changed their policies. The effect on your speed will only be noticeable if you are downloading large files, streaming or using skype or a similiar VOIP product. To be honest, most of the core switches on the internet use 576 anyway, so changing locally really won't matter.
