Cuisinart grind & brew - spring in the filter area popped out. not sure where it goes?

Yes, you place the spring into the tube at the back. When you replace the basket holder, make certain you reach in behind the holder and guide the spring into the proper place on the holder. (Otherwise the spring will be forced to a permanent bend and not work as well. Can't find replacements for this spring on Cuisinart's website). As for why it pops out better now, when you removed the basket holder and cleaned it, you also cleaned the plastic guides on each side. In normal use, these guides acculuminate coffee and tend to get sticky or gummy. When the door pops open, the sticky rails grab the guides and slow the sliding action. Cleaning them restores the clean guide rails to slide open on. (Next time you clean the basket holder, remember to reach in and wipe out all the inner parts, including the plastic rails that the basket holder slides out on. These get coated with coffee as well. And the place around where the grind basket fits over the ground basket. This area always gets sticky with old coffee. Just use a wet paper towel and clean everything. (But remember to be careful when you reinstall the basket holder so that the spring fits back properly.

How can I fix my coffee maker when the water resovior will not drain?

Try cleaning it by brewing a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. You may have to run it through a couple of cycles with a fresh mixture each time. Then rinse by brewing water only a couple of times. Over time calcium and lime builds up inside the tubes of the machine and restricts the flow so this should be done once every few months or as needed. The vinegar will loosen the mineral deposits and flush them out.

Doesn't always brew all the water, stops early

All coffee makers do this over time from calcium, lime, and mineral deposits building up inside the tubes and heating coil. Fill the reservoir with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar and run a normal brew cycle, turning it off and on if necessary to completely empty the reservoir. Repeat this 2 or 3 times with fresh mixture of vinegar and water until it brews the reservoir empty without the need to cycle the power. Follow this procedure with plain water 2 or 3 times to clean the vinegar out. This should get it working like new again. It's best to use distilled water for brewing coffee as distilled water does not have the minerals that regular tap water has and therefore will not clog up the machine.

Bitter taste

You will likely find the bitterness is a function of your coffee bean choice or the 'roast' component of that coffee. Darker roasts tend to taste bitter.

My 12 Cup grind and brew coffee maker needs a good

To clean the inside of the coffee maker, fill the reservoir with water as you would to prepare coffee, except add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the reservoir. Place a clean filter in the basket and run the solution through. When it is complete turn off the unit and let it cool for 2 minutes and then pour the hot solution back into the reservoir for a second run, you can reuse the filter that you placed in it the first time. After it is finished this second time, turn off the unit for 2 minutes and pour the used solution down they kitchen sink. Allow the carafe to cool for a couple of minutes and fill with cold water and run it through as you did the solution, but put a clean filter in this time. Repeat this one more time to remove the vinegar solution and discard the used filters. Once the carafe is cooled fill it about 1/3 full of water, add several ice cubes and 1 tablespoon of baking soda swirl this around in the carafe for a minute or so. Rinse the carafe and run it and the basket through a cycle in the dishwasher or wash by hand with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and you're done. Good luck.

Programable coffeee maker shuts off before

I have the same problem. I can set it up for 10 cups and it shuts off with 2-4 cups of water in it. I open the basket and reset it and then restart the coffee maker, turning the grinder off first. Very frustrating.
