Maytag washer
Take motor and pump assembly off and turn upside down. Soak shaft with lube oil,wd40 ect.
should pull straight up. They are known to stick and brake,(the pump)so be gentle.
Belt Tension
If you are sure the belt is slipping, you need to replace the belt. Mine was making a growling noise that sounded like it might have been a slipping belt but it turned out to be a motor drive problem. I fixed mine with a motor/control board kit (ebay) for $155.00. However, there was a note with the kit that indicated that the symptom on that particular model might have been simply a bad cable connection at the motor end of the cable. The wire lugs are crimped-on in the motor connector and could work loose - the motor jumps around quite a lot during spin start-up...
Burned belt?
Yes, smell like your belt.. if there is water in tub, try to get it out... (wet vac)... slide your washer out and tilt it back so you can see under... there should be 2 belts.. 1 for gear and 1 for water drain pump... and you can check Sears.com for parts.. good luck...
Leaking, not found in owners manual
What you are describing sounds like the pump.
You can see a parts breakdown by going to sears.com, click on parts, and enter your model number. You can view parts diagram and parts list there.

Need a little more information. Need model/serial number and age of the machine before attempting to troubleshoot.
Maytag Performa
thinkin your installng a new thrust bearing kit?? new one is different(actually better not as many washers). Laying this unit on its back or even side will alleviate some of that tension your experiencing. My problem is always trying to fit the E-clip back on after installing the pulley. Turnin the pulley i beleive clockwise will engage the brake and give you a little more play in the shaft. i usually get that clip on slightly and then grab and squeeze on with pliers
Noisy spin cycle
Hey ****, what you are hearing is the spin bearing. Maytag redesigned the bearing kit on this washer, there must of been a lot of leaks causing the bearing to go bad. They put out a service flash...TDL-0060-B. New seal and bearing kit, part number12002470. You may want to contact Maytag on this for it could be covered. I know you have 5 years warranty on the transmission and If they change that, they have to use a new seal and bearing. Catriver...post back.
Belt burnout and transmission gone
It will need a seal and transmission. Expect one and a half to two hours labor. Best bet. Bite the bullet and get another washer as this will probably happen again.
Belt installation
repacing the belt on a neptune is simple. unplug the unit and move it away from the wall.. now remove the 4 screws holding the access panel in place. loop the belt over the end of the motor shaft so that the grooved side of the belt catches the grooves on the shaft. now simply feed it around the tub pulley. if you find the belt keeps coming off you might have a bearing problem tht has caused the tub to shift. look for fine plastic powder, almost dust like, that would be the pulley eating into the back of the tub
