I have an Electrolux Oxygen 3 Ultra Canister Model

You have a problem with the electrical switches. If you are comfortable with this, take apart and double check internal wiring to make sure nothing was frayed, or disconnected. Make sure it is unplugged. If you know how to operate a multimeter, you can use it to check continuity in each switch.

Can the filter cause the vacuum to shut off?

Greetings from GoVacuum,

The answer to this question is yes, sometimes the filters can cause the vacuum to shut off. This typically happens when the filter behind the bag, or the pre-motor filter is clogged or dirty. Also if you have a clog somewhere in the system, this can also cause the machine to power down after a short usage time.

If the machines shuts down, and won't start until waiting for a period of 1-2 hours, then what's happening is that for some reason the motor is overheating, and to protect the motor from damaging itself because the motor can not breathe, it will shut it self down as a precaution.

This is either caused by a clog in the vacuums hose or power nozzle, or it can also be caused by a full bag, or dirty filter.

If the vacuum will not turn on at all, not even for a short time, this indicates something more serious then a clog or filter, and can be one of a number of things from the cord, or switch, and can also be an electronic circuit board, the motor itself, or the hose to vacuum cleaner may have gone bad.

If you can kindly be a little more specific on the problems that you are having I would love to try and diagnosis this thing to help you figure this out. I always happy to share my knowledge with others.

You may email me if you'd like, or just respond here with a clarification request.

If you found this helpful please help me out as I start here on Fixya by clicking the 4 Thumbs Up Icons in the top right hand corner of each repair.

Thanks again,

My vacuum is constantly shutting itself off. When

It sounds like you have a blockage somewhere and the air is not passing over the motor to keep it cool. There is usually a thermostat mounted either on or near the motor. The blockage can be anywhere from the elbow ( the swivel part of your carpet sweeper if you have a canister vac) up thru the hose.If you have a canister vac, use a broom handle to push through the hose to clear the blockage. DO NOT ! use a coat hanger or anything that will cut or tare the hose. There are electrical wires in it that have 120 volts and causes quite a shock !
.
If you have an upright vac, start with the duct hose that comes from the part with the brush up to the hose and on to the main canister of the vac
If this does not work, take your vac to a reputable vac shop for repair. Hope this helps,
Joe

My electrolux oxygen vacuum cleaner shut off and

No..Electrolux is really great about warranty service. They will help you even though you are not the original owner. http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/files/usa_english/0-999/OxygenOwnersManual.pdf owners manual. Here is a link to the site.
http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/node82.asp Also, you might check for an obstruction. The Electrrolux is thermostatically protected. Means that if there is no airflow through the motor, the motor will shut down before overheating can occur. Remove your hose from the cleaner. Drop a quarter down through it, did it come through? If not, you have a clogged hose. If it came through, remove your wand from the power nozzle, look througfh the wand, is it clogged? Now, look at the power nozzle, can you see light through the elbow? Your cleaner will come back on after it has cooled. Try the machine. It should be working now. I hope I could help to Fixya! Please let me know if I helped you. Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)

The on/off buttons are not working anymore? Any

With your hose plugged into the vacuum, check your cord at the outlet, is it securely plugged in? There are no signs of cord damage? If so, you will need to take it to the shop, but it probably just has the wrong sequence in the power buttons.. turn on the main unit switch then turn on the hose switch to the canister, if no power, then hit the switch on the machine again, it should power up, if it does not, open up the bag compartment, and shut it again, making sure that the bag is aligned inside and the cover is closed tightly. Did this fixya? Let me know. You may need to contact electrolux for a replacement hose. they are really good about warranty service and will send yu a new hose at no charge if they determine that is the problem. Here is some contact info. Thanks, Rene(the Vacuum Doctor)

Electrolux oxygen 3 fuse

The fuse on my ELECTROLUX Oxygen3's sumo board did have clear markings: F5AL250V - this is a 5A/250V 20mm fuse made by BEL FUSE, however, any other such fuse should work. The fuse on my board was blown (luckily, what caused it seems to be a glitch as replacing the fuse was all that I had to do). I got 5A/250V 20mm fuse from RadioShack and, expecting that this could happen again, I also installed a simple (5A/250V-rated) automotive fuse holder (also from RadioShack) (the only fuse holder that was available at a local store) and it works wonderfully now. Should the fuse blow on me again, I should be able to replace it in less than 3 minutes.

Electrolux oxygen vacuum

WARNING WARNING Danger danger Will Robinson! The power head "wand" and the hose from the body of the vacuum have shorts in them. While my wife was using this machine.. she started smelling plastic.. seeing whitish smoke and then sparks... The pin connector arc'd through the plastic... Some research on Google found that this has been a large problem for Electrolux, when i tried to call the factory.. robots.... no solution. Then I contacted a distributor and they informed me that it was not really that big of a problem. Only later to say, that they had replaced ALOT of them. My unit was past its warranty period so I just hardwired it. (now the unit is only two pieces, body and hose w/wand.)

How do I get the silver/grey panel off?

Pry gently upward on the front side of the panel. The side closest to the bag area. When you press it upward and also slightly towards the back of the vacuum the plate will pop off.

No power when its turned on

There was a (common cause) power arc during the swap (while running the vacuum).
The fuse located under the grey clipped-on plate of the canister is blown. The fuse is soldered-on the board and would need to be changed (board or fuse). Not "user friendly" zone. Warranty? Smart if they designed a breaker button instead of a fuse here...

Brushroll in electrolux oxygen+ deluxe

Is the brush roll not working at all? Check the teeth at the sides of the brush roll by opening up the electric head. If it has completely been destroyed you may have to buy another new head for it. Separate brush rolls are difficult to obtain and work out more expensive sometimes than the electric heads themselves.
You may have to contact the Electrolux cust services in your own country. Check by Electrolux.com
