You can try data recovery software such as CDroller or "Bad CD DVD repair" Or send it off to a mini dvd recovery company such as www.minidvdrepair.comI used them in the past with great results. I believe I paid around $100

Try entering only the numbers and not the letters at the end. I called the support line and they told me this. It worked for me...hopefully, it will work for you. Otherwise, call them at 1-800-458-4029.

Is there an installation disc with drivers that was in the package? If so insert the cd and install the drivers and try again.

dont know if youve found a solution already, but:
you cant finalzie the disc using battery power, you need to use the ac adaptor. This is something you should have got with the camcorder. its basically the charger plus another cable. so, plug in the charger to the mains as normal. then remove the battery from the camcorder, you'll notice a round hole in the camorder, this is where you plug in the cable i mentioned earlier, the other end of the cable goes into the same size hole found on the battery charger. that's it - you now have power to the camcorder from the mains. switch on the camcorder as normal and finalize the disk.
