I accidently dropped my camera while the lens was open and now the camera wont turn on. when it temporarily does its a black scree that says "lens error, restart camera" the lens seems to be jammed it wont go in or out. What should I do to fix this or to "restart my camera" thanks!
I had the same problem, tried different things but this is what worked.
I put the camera flat on its "back" (screen down, lens up). Looking down at the lens I could see that it was slightly off center. I pushed the lens towards the center and down, forcing it to close. Once it was centered I was able to turn it on and off no problem.

I am unable to download the videos off the camera. I can download all the pictures but when it comes to videos it just shows an empty file but i can watch the video on the camera.
When you connect the camera to the pc there's a box with options for what you want to do. When I downloaded my photos and videos using the scanner and camera wizard it worked fine.

Lens won't retract, wont, take pictures, won't review pictures. Pushing On/Off button just shows message on LCD: "lens error, restart camera".
I've had similar problems with various versions of this camera. Here's the fix, if all else fails. These are step-by-step instructions to take apart and fix the camera's lens error. http://johnsmouth.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/lens-error/

Lens won't retract, wont, take pictures, won't review pictures. Pushing On/Off button just shows message on LCD: "lens error, restart camera". I dropped my sd630 and now it won't work, and it shows the same message:lens error, restart camera
This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

I would update your audio and video codecs in the computer. There's the source of the stuttering on playback.

Aloha,
I bought a new SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card for my old reliable SD 630 Elph but everytime I turn it on I receive a "Memory Card Error".
I can't 'Format' the card because that selection in the Menu mode is inaccessable.
The very same 8GB card works in my SD 750.
And I my 2GB SanDisk card works fine in the SD 630.
ANY insight would be gratly appreciated.
Mahalo~

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.
Regards.

charger light no longer comes on and battery does not charge. How do I know if the problem is with my charger or my battery?
the charger light detect the battery level charge, shows red when charging and green when fully charged.when the charger light is not lit,may be the battery dosnt hold any charge that means its likely that the battery is defective

in fact since it was new I have never been able to do this. The option is there to turn it on but it does not highlight
The camera only stamps the date on the pictures when in postcard mode. When in any of the bigger image modes it won't deface your photos by scrawling a string of numbers across them. However the date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every image in its EXIF data. If you want this printed, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your photos. Depending on the program and printer, you may print this information on the image, in the margins, or on the back.
