Canon PowerShot SD630 Digital ELPH / IXUS 65 Digital Camera - Page 10 Questions & Answers
Hello,
That shouldn't keep you from downloading your photos to the computer.
In fact, the best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.
There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Where do I install the camera chip in the
If you have a built-in card reader in your computer, simply plug the memory card into it. If you don't, you'll need to acquire one. Depending on the type of computer, you'll get a reader that plugs into USB or FireWire. Connect the card reader to the computer, then plug the card into the reader.
You can use the software that came with the camera, or any other photo cataloging/management software, or the computer's drag&drop to copy pictures from the card to your computer.
How to unlock the card
SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting its contents. The position nearest the contacts unlocks it, enabling write.
If the switch is already in the unlocked position, try sliding it fully the other way and then back. If that doesn't work, try a different card.

Inside the camera, check the brass contacts where the battery connects to the camera. Clean it with rubbing alcohol (use a cotton swab) and try to turn it on after insterting the battery.

Try this. While in the shooting mode, in the menu under the tools tab there is a mute control that turns all sounds off. Also under volume there is a control for playback volume.

I can turn the camera on to look at pictures, but
If the camera has recently been dropped you may have lens damage that
is preventing it from powering up. If it hasn't been dropped your
problem
may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery
contacts inside the camera which can
prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera.
Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and
wipe the camera contacts firmly with
a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush,
steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into
the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of
the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full
charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries
). This
cleaning clears
the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, it may be time for new batteries, or the
camera may have
a problem that requires professional repair.
Cannon sd1100, getting card locked message on
Hello Wingerc
In your case the problem is not with the card but rather with your camera's card reader. This is a rather hard problem to fix yourself but here is what you can do.
Open the card slot of your camera and peer inside with a sharp light or torch. You should see a little metal tab or switch inside the card slot. This is the write protection switch. Contrary to popular belief , the switch on the card does not impact the operation of the card itself but rather tells the camera that the card should be locked by depressing the little pin inside.
If you put a protected card into a camera with no protection switch , the card would operate normally.
However , with time and repeated use , the switch will start to bend slightly until it will no longer depress when a unlocked card is inserted.
With a toothpick or needle , slightly and very gently push this tab up a little bit. (some camera's will require you to pull the tab down), This will allow the switch to operate once again and should solve your problem.
Kind Regards
Andrea
My pictures do not import
H and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, a couple of things to try / consider:
- connect using to another USB port;
- connect using another computer;
- check/ replace the USB cable;
- remove the memory card and use a standalone memory card reader.
Postback result(s) and error messages if any.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
